Overview
The Palmary PCB-6030 is a heavy CNC centerless grinder with a Ø610 mm grinding wheel 305 mm wide and a standard grinding range of Ø1 to Ø150 mm. It marks the point in the PCB series where the grinding wheel spindle changes from single-sided to double support.
Palmary explains the reason. With a bearing at each end of the spindle, grinding force is even across the contact face and stress is equal at both ends, which avoids taper-shaped workpieces. On a 305 mm wheel that matters; an overhung spindle deflects more at the free end.
The feed slide is one V and one flat, hand scraped, and the regulating wheel is driven through an adjustable worm shaft that takes out backlash. The regulating wheel itself is Ø355 mm by 305 mm on a 5 kW (6.7 hp) servo, 10 to 200 rpm. Its tilt is +5° to -1° and its swivel ±2°, both different from the smaller PCB machines.
The grinding wheel motor is 30 HP (22 kW) and wheel speed 45 m/s (8,858 ft/min). Lubrication of the grinding wheel spindle is by oil mist, which Palmary says also helps cleaning and temperature control. Palmary describes CNC control as available from 1 to 6 axes to suit the customer. Standard accessories include a FANUC CNC controller and a vibration meter for manual wheel balancing; a grinding wheel exchanger and a jib crane are optional. The machine weighs 7,000 kg (15,432 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Double support grinding wheel spindle to avoid tapered work on a wide wheel
- Standard range up to Ø150 mm
- 30 HP (22 kW) on a Ø610 x 305 mm wheel at 45 m/s (8,858 ft/min)
- Hand scraped V and flat feed slide and an adjustable regulating wheel worm shaft
Limitations
- Regulating wheel tilt is +5° to -1°
- Wheel changes on a double-support spindle need the optional exchanger or jib crane to be practical
- 140 L (37.0 gal) coolant tank
- 7,000 kg (15,432 lb) installation weight

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A standard grinding range of Ø1 to Ø150 mm. The grinding wheel is Ø610 x 305 mm on a 304.8 mm bore and the regulating wheel Ø355 x 305 mm on a 203.2 mm bore. Machine weight is 7,000 kg (15,432 lb).
02
Palmary says the double support bearing type spindle gives even grinding force on the contact surface, with equal stress at both ends of the spindle during grinding, so that workpieces do not come out taper shaped.
03
The PCB-6040 has 405 mm wide wheels and a 40 HP (30 kW) grinding wheel motor. The PCB-6030 has 305 mm wide wheels and a 30 HP (22 kW) motor. The lubrication columns also differ: oil mist and grease on the PCB-6030, automatic lubricators on the PCB-6040.
