Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Palmary FCL-20 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Palmary FCL-20 is the largest CNC centerless grinder in the FCL alloy bearing spindle series. It carries a Ø510 mm grinding wheel, 205 mm wide, on a 20 HP (15 kW) motor, and grinds Ø1 to Ø60 mm as standard or Ø40 to Ø150 mm with a special arrangement.
Palmary's description of this model is more specific than for the smaller FCL machines. The spindles run in alloy bearings for stable operation. The lower slide has a one-V-one-flat structure, which Palmary credits with better feeding accuracy. Feed is under CNC control with a graphic man-machine interface.
The larger wheel diameter matters in two ways. A Ø510 mm wheel lasts longer between changes than the Ø455 mm wheel of the FCL-18, and a larger regulating wheel, Ø305 mm here, supports bigger work more steadily. The regulating wheel servo is 5 kW (6.7 hp), with the usual 10 to 300 rpm, +5° to -3° of tilt and ±5° of swivel.
At 3,700 kg (8,157 lb) the FCL-20 is well above the 2,900 kg (6,393 lb) of the FCL-18, with the same 170 L (44.9 gal) coolant and 88 L (23.2 gal) hydraulic tanks. A FANUC CNC controller, infeed and thrufeed work rests with carbide blades and diamond tools are standard accessories. Loading attachments, a profile grinding attachment and coolant separators are optional.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 20 HP (15 kW) grinding wheel motor, the largest in the FCL series
- Ø510 mm grinding wheel and Ø305 mm regulating wheel
- 5 kW (6.7 hp) servo on the regulating wheel
- One-V-one-flat lower slide, which Palmary says improves feeding accuracy
- CNC feed with a graphic man-machine interface
Limitations
- Wheel width is 205 mm; no wider FCL-20 variant is listed
- Standard range Ø1 to Ø60 mm is no larger than on the FCL-18
- 33 m/s (6,496 ft/min) wheel speed
- Hydraulic and coolant systems need 88 L (23.2 gal) and 170 L (44.9 gal) of fluid

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Grinding wheel Ø510 x 205 mm on a 304.8 mm bore; regulating wheel Ø305 x 205 mm on a 127 mm bore. The grinding wheel runs at 33 m/s (6,496 ft/min) and the regulating wheel from 10 to 300 rpm.
02
Palmary says the spindle of this series adopts high-quality alloy bearings for stable, accurate operation. A pressure switch allows the grinding and regulating wheel spindles to start only once oil has entered the bearings, and an automatic lubricator serves the grinding wheel spindle.
03
The FCL-18 has a Ø455 mm wheel on 15 HP (11 kW), a 3 kW (4.0 hp) regulating servo and weighs 2,900 kg (6,393 lb). The FCL-20 has a Ø510 mm wheel on 20 HP (15 kW), a 5 kW (6.7 hp) regulating servo and weighs 3,700 kg (8,157 lb).

Through-feed and infeed. Both work rests are standard accessories. Options add a profile grinding attachment, an automatic infeed attachment, a manual up-and-down feeder and a hydraulic work ejector for infeed grinding, and loaders and feeders for thrufeed grinding.
