Overview
The Mazak QUICK TURN 350M is a 12 in chuck turning center with live tooling and nothing else added: Mazak's model list gives its configuration as Milling, VDI, with no Y-axis and no second spindle. It turns up to Ø17 in (432 mm) over a length of 24 in (610 mm), on a 4,000 rpm main spindle rated 30 kW (40 HP) on a 30 min. rating.
Set against the smaller machines of the series, the 350 size buys diameter and bore before it buys length. The QUICK TURN 200M, the same configuration with an 8 in chuck, has Ø15 in (381 mm) of turning diameter, 21 in (533 mm) of turning length and a 5,000 rpm spindle. The 350M answers with a Ø30 in (762 mm) swing, Ø4 in (102 mm) of bar capacity, 10 in (254 mm) of X travel and 26 in (660 mm) of Z, at a lower top speed. It is a chucker for flanges, housings, rings and thick bar, not a shaft lathe.
Milling without a Y-axis means every live tool works on the spindle centreline. Cross drilling, face drilling on a bolt circle and tapping are all in reach, and so is any shape the C-axis can generate by rotating the part under the tool; Mazak states that C-axis contouring is standard for the main spindle of M models in the series. A keyway with parallel walls or a hole offset from centre is where this model stops and the QUICK TURN 350MSY, with 6 in (152 mm) of Y travel, takes over.
Tooling follows the size class. Mazak groups the 12-inch models with a Ø50 boring bar shank and a 25 mm turning tool shank, and the turret holds 12 tools. With one spindle to feed, that count goes further than it does on the two-spindle models.
