Overview

The Mazak INTEGREX i-450H ST is the full-capability horizontal variant of the INTEGREX i-H lineup, combining a 12-inch chuck with horizontal milling head orientation, sub spindle, and lower turret for maximum productivity on large-diameter parts in tough materials. The horizontal milling head provides gravity-assisted chip evacuation critical for unattended machining of Inconel, titanium, and stainless steel.

The main turning spindle delivers 30 kW (40 hp) at 3,300 RPM through a 12-inch chuck with 116 mm (4.57 in) bar capacity. The sub spindle provides 22 kW (30 hp) at 3,300 RPM with a 10-inch chuck. The lower turret adds 12-station live tooling. The compact horizontal milling spindle, 17% shorter than conventional, runs at 12,000 RPM with 24 kW (32 hp) through HSK-A63.

Axis travels span 695 mm (27.4 in) on X and 300 mm (11.81 in) on Y. Maximum machining diameter is 670 mm (26.38 in) with machining lengths of 1,011 mm (39.80 in), 1,519 mm (59.80 in), or 2,501 mm (98.43 in). The B-axis provides 240 degrees with 0.0001-degree resolution. Standard ball screw core cooling on X, Y, Z axes maintains thermal stability.

9 programmable axes enable simultaneous cutting. Machine weight approximately 22,000 kg (48,502 lb). New machines $600,000-$800,000. Competitors include the DMG Mori CTX gamma 2000 TC and Okuma MULTUS U5000.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Horizontal milling head provides gravity-assisted chip evacuation critical for unattended Inconel, titanium, and stainless work
  • 9-axis with simultaneous cutting reduces cycle times 30-50% on complex large-diameter parts
  • 12-inch main chuck and 10-inch sub handle the largest done-in-one parts
  • Standard ball screw core cooling on all axes maintains thermal stability during long cycles
  • Compact milling head 17% shorter reduces interference in horizontal orientation
  • Horizontal format simplifies crane loading of heavy workpieces

Limitations

  • Starting near $600K is premium investment for the horizontal ST configuration
  • 22,000 kg demands robust foundation engineering
  • Larger footprint than vertical i-450 NEO ST for equivalent capacity
  • Lower used market availability makes pre-owned i-450H ST harder to find
05

Best For

Aerospace shops machining large components in titanium and Inconel where chip evacuation is critical Production environments running unattended where gravity-assisted chip clearing prevents crashes Shops with crane access loading heavy workpieces requiring 9-axis simultaneous capability Oil and gas manufacturers producing large shaft-type components in horizontal orientation Facilities standardizing on INTEGREX i-H horizontal platform

Frequently Asked Questions

01 i-450H ST cost?

New machines start around $600,000. Loaded with high-speed milling, long bed, and automation interface runs $700K-$800K.

02 i-450H ST vs i-450 NEO ST?

Same specs but horizontal milling head orientation. H variant preferred for stringy-chip materials and unattended operation. 10-15% price premium and larger footprint.

03 Why horizontal?

Gravity-assisted chip evacuation prevents recutting on stainless, Inconel, and titanium. Critical for lights-out reliability.

04 Foundation?

22,000 kg requires engineered reinforced concrete foundation. Crane access needed for installation and spindle service.
