Overview

The Kjellberg iQ 1500 is the 150 A model of the iQ-Series, the maker's current generation of plasma power sources for automated cutting. Cutting current is 20 - 150 A. In mild steel the recommended range is 0.5 - 40 mm (0.02 - 1.6 in), the maximum is 60 mm (2.4 in) and piercing is listed at 35 mm (1.4 in).

Stainless steel and aluminium capacity depends on which gas version is fitted, and the table has a column for each. With iQ-Gas O2 the cutting gases are O2, N2 and Air, and both metals are listed at a maximum of 40 mm (1.6 in) with piercing at 25 mm (1.0 in). With iQ-Gas the gas list grows to O2, N2, Air, Ar, H2 and F5, and the maximum rises to 60 mm for both metals. Decide on the gas version before comparing thickness figures.

Integration is where the iQ generation differs from the older lines. The series brochure lists integration via EtherCAT or RS-485, and Q-Desk shows process and system data in real time. The Q-Torch Auto Change System, which swaps differently equipped torch heads automatically, can be combined with the unit.

Unlike the HiFocus neo and Smart Focus tables, the mains row here covers three bands: 380 - 400 V, 415 - 440 V and 440 - 480 V, each at 50/60 Hz. The slow fuse is 63 A and the maximum connected load is 35 kVA. All three iQ models share a 1150 x 695 x 1510 mm cabinet with protection class IP 21S. The mass row reads "240/281 kg"; the brochure column it comes from is headed iQ 1500 and iQ 1500 plus.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Mains voltages of 380 - 400 V, 415 - 440 V and 440 - 480 V at 50/60 Hz are listed as standard rows
  • Integration via EtherCAT or RS-485, with real-time process data in Q-Desk
  • Mild steel recommended range of 0.5 - 40 mm (0.02 - 1.6 in) with piercing at 35 mm (1.4 in)
  • Runs on a 63 A slow fuse with a maximum connected load of 35 kVA
  • Can be combined with the Q-Torch Auto Change System for automatic torch head changes
  • Marking current of 5 - 60 A with Ar, N2 or Air as marking gases

Limitations

  • With iQ-Gas O2, stainless steel and aluminium are limited to a 40 mm maximum and 25 mm piercing
  • Ar, H2 and F5 as cutting gases are listed only for the iQ-Gas version
  • The mild steel maximum of 60 mm lies outside the recommended range, which ends at 40 mm
  • The Q-Torch Auto Change System is described as optional in the series brochure

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How thick can the iQ 1500 cut?

In mild steel the recommended range is 0.5 - 40 mm (0.02 - 1.6 in), the maximum is 60 mm and piercing is 35 mm. In stainless steel and aluminium the maximum is 40 mm with iQ-Gas O2 and 60 mm with iQ-Gas.

02 What is the difference between iQ-Gas O2 and iQ-Gas on the iQ 1500?

They are the two gas versions the table distinguishes. iQ-Gas O2 lists O2, N2 and Air as cutting gases. iQ-Gas lists O2, N2, Air, Ar, H2 and F5, where F5 is forming gas. Stainless steel piercing is 25 mm with the first and 30 mm with the second; aluminium piercing is 25 mm and 40 mm.

03 Which mains voltages does the iQ 1500 accept?

The mains voltages row lists 380 - 400 V, 415 - 440 V and 440 - 480 V, each at 50/60 Hz. The slow fuse is 63 A and the maximum connected load is 35 kVA. Protection class is IP 21S.

04 How is the iQ 1500 connected to a CNC?

The series brochure lists simple integration via EtherCAT or RS-485. Process data is available in real time in Q-Desk, and the brochure also lists remote monitoring and updates in the integrated Kjellberg eService.

05 Can the iQ 1500 be upgraded later?

The series brochure states that the modular design of the iQ-Series allows flexible adjustment of cutting performance to meet growing production requirements. It does not describe the upgrade steps for this model, so the scope has to be confirmed with the maker.
