How much does the Kent CNC KTM-3VKF cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Kent CNC KTM-3VKF that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Kent CNC KTM-3VKF is a CNC knee mill with the Acu-Rite MillPwr G2 control: 32 in (813 mm) of X travel, 14 in (356 mm) of Y, 15 in (381 mm) of knee travel in Z and a 3 hp (2.2 kW) R-8 spindle. It can be wired for a single-phase supply as well as three-phase.
That supply detail decides a lot of purchases. The table lists 220 V 3-phase at 10 A or 220 V 1-phase at 15 A, with 440 V at 5 A as an option. A garage shop, a school lab or a maintenance department without three-phase power can install it without a converter.
The frame is the familiar ram-and-knee layout. Ram travel is 22 in (559 mm), which moves the spindle center from 5 to 27 in (127 to 686 mm) away from the column, so the head can reach over a wide part or be pulled in close for rigidity. The quill is 3.375 in (86 mm) in diameter with 4 in (102 mm) of travel and feeds of 0.0015, 0.003 and 0.006 in/rev. The standard table is 10 x 50 in (254 x 1,270 mm); a 10 x 54 in (254 x 1,372 mm) table is optional.
The head uses an AC frequency drive, with a speed range listed as 60-550-4,500 rpm. Rated capacities are modest: 0.75 in (19 mm) for manual drilling, 0.37 in (9 mm) for power drilling, 6 in (152 mm) for boring and 2.0 in³/min (33 cm³/min) for milling. The BM-3, with the same spindle power and table size, is listed at 1,480 lb (671 kg) distributed table load and weighs 3,960 lb (1,796 kg). The KTM-3VKF carries 850 lb (386 kg) at the table center and weighs 3,100 lb (1,406 kg).
Position feedback comes from 3-axis absolute encoder glass scales, read out on a 12.1 in color LCD. Shipping weight is 3,300 lb (1,497 kg).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Runs on 220 V 1-phase at 15 A as well as 220 V 3-phase at 10 A, with 440 V at 5 A optional
- 22 in (559 mm) of ram travel puts the spindle center 5-27 in (127-686 mm) from the column
- 3-axis absolute encoder glass scales for position feedback
- Acu-Rite MillPwr G2 control with a 12.1 in color LCD
- AC frequency drive head covering 60-550-4,500 rpm
Limitations
- Table load is 850 lb (386 kg) at the center, against 1,480 lb (671 kg) distributed on the BM-3
- Milling capacity is listed at 2.0 in³/min (33 cm³/min) from a 3 hp (2.2 kW) spindle
- R-8 taper and a quill travel of 4 in (102 mm) limit tool size and drilling depth per stroke
- Z is the knee, with 15 in (381 mm) of travel, so the workpiece moves up and down under the cut
- The table lists no automatic tool changer

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Yes. The listed power requirement is 220 V 3-phase at 10 A or 220 V 1-phase at 15 A, with 440 V at 5 A as an option. Say which supply you have when ordering, so the machine arrives wired for it.
02
X travel is 32 in (813 mm) and Y travel 14 in (356 mm). Z travel is 15 in (381 mm) and is the knee. In addition the quill travels 4 in (102 mm) and the ram 22 in (559 mm), giving a spindle center to column distance of 5-27 in (127-686 mm).
03
The standard table is 10 x 50 in (254 x 1,270 mm). A 10 x 54 in (254 x 1,372 mm) table is listed as an option. Maximum table load is 850 lb (386 kg) at the center, so add the weight of the vise or fixture to the part before loading it.
04
Both have a 3 hp (2.2 kW) spindle, a 4,500 rpm top speed and a 10 x 50 in (254 x 1,270 mm) table. The BM-3 weighs 3,960 lb (1,796 kg) and takes 1,480 lb (671 kg) distributed on its table. The KTM-3VKF is lighter at 3,100 lb (1,406 kg), with 850 lb (386 kg) allowed at the table center.
05
The table lists 3-axis absolute encoder glass scales as the position feedback, shown on the 12.1 in color LCD of the Acu-Rite MillPwr G2 control. Glass scales read the slide position directly, so the reading does not depend on the condition of the screw.
