Overview

The Johnford ST-240C is the six-metre C-spindle lathe on the 920 mm (36.2 in) swing frame, with 6,050 mm (238.2 in) of Z travel.

Johnford offers this length and spindle on three frames, and at six metres the choice between them is mostly about clearance. This one swings 700 mm (27.6 in) over the cross slide with 370 mm (14.6 in) of X travel. The ST-240CH swings 800 mm (31.5 in) with 420 mm (16.5 in) of X, and the ST-240CX swings 1,000 mm (39.4 in) with 520 mm (20.5 in). Weight barely separates them: 32,200 kg (70,840 lb) here, 32,400 kg (71,280 lb) and 32,500 kg (71,500 lb) for the other two.

Floor space is where this frame saves. It is 2,504 mm (98.6 in) wide and 2,895 mm (114 in) high on a length of 11,667 mm (459.3 in).

The spindle has an A2-15 nose, a 152 mm (6 in) bore and 139 mm (5.5 in) of bar capacity, with 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp) as standard. Maximum speed is 1,500 rpm with the belt-type gearbox. The tailstock travels 5,400 mm (212.6 in) and carries a Ø200 mm (7.9 in) MT#7 quill with 150 mm (5.9 in) of travel.
