Overview

Four metres of Z travel, a 2,000 rpm turning spindle and 80 tools: the Johnford ST-160BX+B+C+Y is the long-bed ST Turn-Mill for shafts of ordinary bore that need a lot of milling.

The turning side is modest for a machine of 55,000 kg (121,252 lb). The chuck is Ø381 mm (15 in), the nose A2-11, the bore Ø132.5 mm (5.2 in) with Ø116 mm (4.6 in) bar capacity, and the motor 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp), the smallest main motor in the table. The milling/turning spindle is the stronger of the two at 38 / 62 kW (51.0 / 83.1 hp), with a CAPTO C8 interface.

That balance points to the workpiece: a long shaft that is turned to size without much stock removal and then spends most of its cycle under the B-axis spindle, being milled, drilled and bored along 4,000 mm (157.5 in). An 80-tool magazine supports long, varied programs without a tool reload.

Maximum turning diameter is Ø800 mm (31.5 in), X travel +811 / -10 mm and Y travel ±100 mm (±3.9 in). The tailstock travels 3,600 mm (141.7 in). Outside dimensions are 12,041 x 5,980 x 4,813 mm (474.1 x 235.4 x 189.5 in).
