Overview
Between the two ends of Johnford's flat-bed range, the Johnford LC-50 swings 1,275 mm (50.2 in) over the bed and 910 mm (35.8 in) over the cross slide. That is a large step over the cross slide from the LC-40, which clears 640 mm (25.2 in).
Its drives, though, are those of the LC-40. The spindle motor is 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp), with 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp) as an option, the X servo motor 3 kW, the Z servo motor 4 kW and the C-axis motor 2.1 kW. The LC-60 is the model with larger motors throughout. So the LC-50 suits work that needs the clearance without the heaviest cuts: long fabricated cylinders, large pipe, rolls of moderate weight.
For pipe, the wider headstock choices matter. Variants G and H have A2-20 noses with Ø318 mm and Ø360 mm bores, I and J have A2-28 noses with Ø410 mm and Ø535 mm, and K has an A2-32 nose with a Ø610 mm bore, at speeds from 500 rpm down to 220 rpm. Front and rear chucks are an option.
Bed lengths follow the same scheme as on the other LC models, from 2,000 mm between centers up to 20,000 mm. Listed weights run from 23,000 kg (model 5080) to 37,000 kg (model 50360).
