Jet Edge Jet Start 510A

The Jet Edge Jet Start 510A is a packaged 3-axis abrasive waterjet: a mid rail motion system over a 5 ft x 10 ft (1,524 x 3,048 mm) table, sold together with its pump, software and abrasive hopper. Most Jet Edge machines are configured to order. This one arrives as a fixed bundle, which is the point of it.

The pump in the bundle is the HERO 50, a 50 hp (37.3 kW) intensifier rated at 60,000 psi (4,100 bar) with a flow of 1.1 gpm (4.1 lpm). That flow sets the largest orifice the pump will feed, 0.015 in (0.38 mm), so the package runs one abrasive head. Anyone planning a second head later should read the pump figures first, because the motion system is not the limit.

Motion is by precision ball screws directly coupled to servo motors. Jet Edge states ±0.001 in (±0.025 mm) linear positional accuracy over 12 in (304 mm) per axis, the same figure for bidirectional repeatability, and ±0.003 in (±0.076 mm) for squareness and straightness over 24 in (608 mm). The catch tank is isolated from the cutting frame. The motorized Z carriage has 12 in (304 mm) of vertical travel, and a servo driven Z carriage with the same travel is listed among the options.

Control is the Aquavision DI industrial PC controller with a handheld pendant, and programming is done in IGEMS CAD/CAM with the nesting upgrade included. Abrasive comes from an 800 lb (363 kg) solid phase bulk hopper. The option list covers a lights-out package, pressure and abrasive monitors, an abrasive removal system, laser surface mapping and a contact height sensor. On the pump side there is an upgrade to HERO 50+ controls, a redundant intensifier and a boost pump.
