Overview
The Hurco VMX60Ui is a 5-axis trunnion machining center with 1,524 x 660 x 520 mm (60 x 26 x 20.5 in) of travel and a 500 mm (19.7 in) rotary table, tilting from +30° to -110° on A and turning 360° on C. It is not in Hurco's current lineup and is probably an older model, so buyers today will mostly be looking at used machines.
The trunnion is what the extra size buys: 500 mm (19.7 in) across with five 18 mm T-slots and a 400 kg (880 lb) rating, against the 398 mm (15.7 in) table and 250 kg (550 lb) of the VMX42UDi. That makes room for bigger fixtures, several small parts per setup or a single larger part, as long as everything clears the frame when the A axis swings.
The spindle is a 12,000 rpm CAT 40 / Big Plus unit with 18 kW (24 hp) peak and 237 Nm (175 ft. lbs) at 720 rpm. That much torque low in the speed range suits drilling, tapping and roughing in steel on a 40-taper machine. The cost is speed elsewhere. Rapids are 32 m/min (1,260 ipm) on X and Y and 24 m/min (945 ipm) on Z, and the rotary axes rapid at 16.6 rpm on A and 20.8 rpm on C, all slower than the 45 m/min (1,771 ipm) and 25 rpm of the VMX42UDi. On parts with many short operations, those figures add up.
The 40-tool changer takes CAT or BT 40 tools up to 76 mm (3 in) in diameter, 300 mm (11.8 in) long and 7 kg (15.4 lb), and the spindle nose sits 90 mm to 610 mm (3.5 in / 24 in) from the table. Plan for an 8,546 kg (18,800 lb) machine, 3,124 mm (123 in) tall, needing 5,455 x 4,590 mm (215 x 181 in) of floor and a 34 kVA supply. It runs Hurco's WinMax control, with conversational and NC programming.
