Overview
The Hurco VMX60SWi is the 60-inch swivel-head variant, designed for shops that need angular spindle access on large, heavy workpieces. Like the VMX42SWi, this machine uses a B-axis swivel head without a rotary table, providing 4+1 axis capability with maximum table rigidity and load capacity.
Travels are 1,524 x 660 x 610 mm (60 x 26 x 24 in) with a 1,676 x 660 mm (66 x 26 in) fixed table rated for 2,000 kg (4,410 lb). That's the highest table capacity in Hurco's SWi lineup and more than any SRTi model — the absence of a rotary table mechanism means every kilogram of capacity goes to your workpiece and fixturing.
The B-axis swivels +/-92 degrees, providing angular access to steep walls, undercuts, and angled features. B-axis rapid runs at 50 RPM. The spindle-to-table clearance ranges from 102 to 711 mm (4 to 28 in), accommodating tall parts and long fixtures.
The spindle runs 12,000 RPM through a CAT 40 / Big Plus taper, delivering 36.5 kW (48 hp) of peak power with 120.2 Nm (88.7 ft-lbs) of torque at 2,900 RPM. The 40-tool ATC handles standard tooling with 76 mm max diameter and 249 mm max length. Rapids run 32 m/min (1,259 ipm) on X/Y and 24 m/min (945 ipm) on Z.
At 9,900 kg (21,780 lb), this is a substantial machine requiring a reinforced foundation. Floor space is 5,606 x 3,930 mm (221 x 155 in) and power draw is 54 KVA. WinMax control handles the full range from conversational programming to CAM-driven toolpaths.
New pricing runs $270,000-$350,000. This machine targets shops machining oversized, heavy workpieces that need angular spindle access without the complexity and cost of full 5-axis rotary table systems.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 2,000 kg (4,410 lb) table load is the highest in any Hurco SWi, handling the heaviest workpieces in the lineup
- 60 inches of X travel with B-axis swivel provides angular access across a massive work envelope
- 36.5 kW (48 hp) spindle drives through heavy cuts on large steel and cast iron parts
- No rotary table means simpler mechanics, higher reliability, and lower maintenance costs than SRTi variants
- 66 x 26 inch table accommodates large workpieces and multi-part setups for batch production
- 9,900 kg machine weight provides excellent vibration damping for heavy-duty cutting
Limitations
- No C-axis rotary limits to 4+1 indexed operations — no full 5-axis simultaneous machining
- 5,606 x 3,930 mm footprint demands substantial floor space
- 32/24 m/min rapids are relatively slow for the travel distances, adding non-cutting time
- CAT 40 taper may limit heavy roughing capability at the extreme end of what this machine's envelope allows
- Parts requiring more than 4+1 sided access must be manually repositioned

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New pricing runs $270,000-$350,000 depending on options. This is less than the VMX60SRTi ($320-420K) since no rotary table system is included. Used machines sell for $150,000-$240,000 depending on age, hours, and condition.
02
Choose the SWi when your parts are very heavy (over 500 kg), you don't need C-axis rotation, and your work is primarily 4+1 indexed operations. The SWi saves $50-70K over the SRTi and provides 640 kg more table capacity (2,000 vs 1,360 kg). Choose the SRTi when you need full 5-axis capability with rotary table positioning.
03
You can bolt a standalone rotary table to the fixed table, but it won't be integrated into the WinMax control for simultaneous interpolation. For full 5-axis integration, buy the SRTi from the start. A bolt-on rotary works for basic indexing but lacks the accuracy and control integration of the factory-installed system.
04
The SWi adds the B-axis swivel head for angular spindle access, which eliminates compound angle fixtures and reduces setup time on parts with angled features. The trade-off is higher cost ($70-100K more), more complex maintenance, and the swivel-head mechanism's additional weight. If your parts have angled holes or features, the SWi pays for itself quickly in reduced setup time.
05
A reinforced concrete pad at least 250 mm thick, designed for the 9,900 kg machine weight plus dynamic cutting forces and 2,000 kg workpiece loads. Anchor bolts are essential. Hurco provides a foundation layout with recommended reinforcement specifications.
