Overview

Twenty tool positions and a 50-2,250 rpm live spindle make the Honor Seiki VL-300CM the milling-capable entry to the Large vertical lathe range. The envelope is the same as the VL-300C: 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of swing and turning diameter, 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of turning height and 30,000 kg (66,138 lb) on the table.

A slewing ring is a good picture of what it is for. The races and faces are turned, and then the ring needs dozens of bolt holes around each flange, often with grease holes drilled radially. On a thirty-tonne part every one of those operations done in the turning setup is a transfer avoided. Honor Seiki names the wind power industry as the main market for the range.

The tool count rises with the function. The turning-only VL-300C lists 16 positions and the CM lists 20, leaving room for drills, taps and cutters beside the turning tools. How many of the 20 are driven is not stated, and the live spindle is described by its speed range alone: no power, no torque, no taper. A dual speed gearbox for the live spindle is optional.

Standard equipment includes a table with manual 8-jaw chuck, a coolant tank with bed wash down, a hinge type chip conveyor and spindle orientation. The electrical cabinet air conditioner, optional on C models, is noted as standard for the CM series. The structure is described as a wide span column with box ways and the patented Solid lock tool clamping mechanism. High-pressure coolant through the tool holder, a workpiece probe and a Siemens controller are options.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the VL-300CM and the VL-300C?

The VL-300CM has a live spindle with a 50-2,250 rpm range and 20 tool positions. The VL-300C has no live spindle and 16 tool positions. Both turn 3,600 mm (141.7 in) by 2,000 mm (78.7 in) and carry 30,000 kg (66,138 lb).

02 How many tools does the VL-300CM hold?

The table lists 20 tool positions. Honor Seiki does not break that figure down into turning and driven positions on the page, so ask how the positions are arranged if a job depends on a particular number of live tools.

03 What is the VL-300CM designed for?

Honor Seiki says the Large vertical lathe range is built for turning huge workpieces and hardened material, especially for the wind power industry, and cites a wide span column, box ways and its patented Solid lock tool clamping mechanism.

04 What live spindle speed does the VL-300CM have?

50-2,250 rpm. A dual speed gearbox for the live spindle is an optional accessory. The page does not state the spindle's power, torque or tool taper.
