Overview
A table of 4,080 x 1,100 mm that takes 5,000 kg (11,023 lb): the Hedelius FORTE 11-3600 is a 3-axis travelling column machining centre for parts that are long and wide at once. X travel is 3,600 mm (141.7 in), Y is 1,100 mm (43.3 in) and Z is 1,005 mm (39.6 in).
Hedelius names machine and tool construction, vehicle construction and aerospace as the fields for this model, the common thread being long workpieces. In practice the wide Y axis is what distinguishes it from other 3,600 mm machines. Sheet-like aerospace parts, die plates and vehicle frame members tend to fail on Y travel before they fail on X.
The spindles are liquid-cooled motor spindles in 40 size. SK40 is the standard mount, with 14,000 rpm and either 117 Nm and 22 kW or 185 Nm and 37 kW. HSK A63 is optional and brings 18,000 rpm with 35 kW or 15,000 rpm with 217 Nm and 50 kW. For aluminium structures the 18,000 rpm unit is the obvious choice; for steel dies, the 217 Nm one. Feeds are 40 m/min and feed force is 27,000 N.
A 65-position tool magazine is standard and travels with the column. The data sheet gives ca. 13 s chip to chip, and theoretical capacities up to 329 with standby magazines. Pendulum operation divides the table into 1,525 x 1,525 mm. Direct measuring systems are fitted, the work area is fully encapsulated, and the chip conveyor can be ordered in right-hand or left-hand design. Machine weight is 23,000 kg (50,705 lb).
