Overview
The Haas VF-1YT is an extended Y-axis variant of the VF-1, stretching the Y-axis from 356 mm (14 in) to 406 mm (16 in). That extra 50 mm matters when you're working on plates, mold bases, or parts with depth that push the standard VF-1 to its Y-axis limits.
The spindle is the standard VF-1 unit: an inline direct-drive at 22.4 kW (30 hp) spinning to 8,100 RPM, with an optional 12,000 RPM upgrade. X-axis travel is 508 mm (20 in), Z-axis is 508 mm (20 in), and the table is 660 x 356 mm (26 x 14 in). The 20-pocket side-mount tool changer handles standard cat-40 tooling.
Rapid traverse rates are 25.4 m/min (1,000 in/min) on all axes. The machine weighs approximately 2,948 kg (6,500 lb), providing decent rigidity for a small-frame VMC. The fourth-axis drive is standard on the table for shops that want to add a rotary later.
The NGC control delivers the same interface as every Haas mill and lathe. For shops standardized on Haas, the VF-1YT slots in without any training overhead.
At $60,000-$80,000 configured, the VF-1YT is a modest step up from the VF-1 for shops that regularly need the extra Y-axis reach. It fills the gap between the VF-1 and VF-2 without the larger footprint of the VF-2.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 406 mm (16 in) Y-axis gives 50 mm more reach than the standard VF-1 for deeper parts and plates
- Same spindle and performance as the VF-1 with no compromise on rigidity or speed
- Smaller footprint than the VF-2 while delivering extra Y-axis reach
- 22.4 kW (30 hp) inline spindle is strong for the frame size
- Modest price premium over the VF-1 for meaningful capability increase
- NGC control consistency with the entire Haas lineup
Limitations
- Only 50 mm more Y-axis than the VF-1 — may not justify the price bump for some shops
- 8,100 RPM standard spindle limits high-speed aluminum work without the 12,000 RPM upgrade
- 20-pocket tool changer is adequate but limiting for complex multi-tool jobs
- 508 mm (20 in) X-travel is still relatively short for wider workpieces
- Table size unchanged from VF-1 — the extra Y-axis doesn't come with a larger table

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The VF-1YT extends Y-axis travel from 356 mm (14 in) to 406 mm (16 in). All other specs — spindle, X-axis, Z-axis, table, and tool changer — are identical. The YT variant is for shops that regularly bump into the VF-1's Y-axis limit.
02
Base price is around $60,000. With 4th-axis drive, through-spindle coolant, probing, and chip auger, expect $70,000-$80,000 configured. The premium over a standard VF-1 is roughly $3,000-$5,000.
03
If you need the extra Y-axis but not more X-axis travel or a bigger table, the VF-1YT saves floor space and cost. If you anticipate needing the VF-2's 762 mm (30 in) X-travel and larger 914 x 356 mm table, skip the VF-1YT and go straight to the VF-2.
