Overview

The Haas TM-0P is the productivity-enhanced version of the TM-0, Haas's smallest toolroom mill. It shares the same compact 406 x 305 x 254 mm (16 x 12 x 10 in) travel envelope but adds the P-series enhancements that improve day-to-day usability and throughput: higher rapid traverse rates, improved servo response, and production-oriented software features.

The spindle remains the belt-drive CT/BT 40 taper unit at 6,000 RPM with 5.6 kW (7.5 hp) and 45 Nm (33 ft-lbf) of torque. The P designation does not change the spindle — the improvements are in axis motion and control features. Rapids increase to 15.2 m/min (600 ipm) from the standard TM-0's 10.2 m/min (400 ipm), a 50% improvement that noticeably reduces non-cutting time on multi-feature parts.

The 10-pocket carousel tool changer, table dimensions, and load capacity are identical to the TM-0. The table measures 762 x 267 mm (30 x 10.5 in) with 113 kg (250 lb) capacity. The machine accepts single-phase 220 VAC at 30 amps, maintaining the TM-0's installation flexibility.

At a base price around $46,000 — roughly $4,000 more than the standard TM-0 — the TM-0P makes sense for shops that will actually run parts on the machine rather than using it purely for training. The faster rapids and improved servo tuning reduce cycle times enough to justify the premium on any job beyond basic demonstrations. For training environments where students will also produce real parts, the TM-0P is the better investment. Specs sourced from Haas Automation published data.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 50% faster rapids than the standard TM-0 (600 vs 400 ipm) noticeably reduce non-cutting time
  • Same single-phase 30-amp power requirement as the TM-0 — installs in any building
  • NGC control identical to production Haas machines for complete CNC skill transfer
  • Compact footprint and 3,500 lb weight fit the smallest shop spaces
  • Only ~$4K more than the standard TM-0 for meaningful productivity improvements
  • 40-taper spindle accepts standard tooling shared with production Haas mills

Limitations

  • 16x12x10-inch travel still severely limits workpiece size
  • 6,000 RPM max and 7.5 hp remain toolroom-grade power
  • 6.5-second chip-to-chip tool changes are slow by production standards
  • 250 lb table load capacity limits fixture and workpiece weight
  • Belt-drive spindle with grease-packed bearings lacks production-grade precision

Best For

Training programs that also need to produce real parts between instruction sessions Small toolrooms making fixtures, gauges, and one-off parts on a compact platform Garage shops wanting the fastest TM-0 variant available on single-phase power R&D departments prototyping small components where faster rapids reduce iteration time Shops upgrading from a TM-0 that need better cycle times without changing their footprint

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the TM-0 and TM-0P?

The TM-0P adds faster rapid traverse rates (600 ipm vs 400 ipm), higher cutting feedrate capability (500 ipm vs 400 ipm), and improved servo tuning. The spindle, travel, tool changer, and electrical requirements are identical. The P costs approximately $4,000 more.

02 What does a Haas TM-0P cost?

Base price is approximately $46,000. With probing and basic options, expect $50,000-$58,000. The $4K premium over the standard TM-0 is easily justified if the machine will be used for actual part production.

03 Can the TM-0P run on single-phase?

Yes. Like the standard TM-0, it runs on 220 VAC single-phase at 30 amps. It also accepts 220V 3-phase at 20 amps or 440V 3-phase at 10 amps.

04 Should I buy the TM-0P or step up to the TM-1P?

The TM-1P adds 356 mm (14 in) of X travel and 101 mm (4 in) of Y travel, nearly doubling the work envelope. If your parts fit in the TM-0P's 16x12x10-inch envelope, save the money. If you routinely need more than 16 inches in any axis, the TM-1P at $52K is the better choice.
