Overview

The GF Machining Solutions CHARMILLES LASER S 2500 U is the largest laser texturing system in the LASER S platform, purpose-built for 5-axis surface texturing of very large molds, dies, and industrial components. With X/Y/Z travels of 2,500 x 2,000 x 1,200 mm and a 10,000 kg workpiece capacity, this machine handles the largest automotive body panel molds, bumper tools, and instrument panel inserts that no other laser texturing system can accommodate.

The 5-axis configuration features a 240-degree laser head tilt (A-axis, -90/+150 degrees) and a 370-degree rotary table (B-axis, -185/+185 degrees), enabling full access to complex 3D surface geometries. The maximum 5-axis machining envelope covers a diameter of 750 mm with 1,340 mm height.

The primary laser source is a 100/150W Ytterbium pulsed Flexipulse nanosecond laser for production texturing. An optional 100W Femto IR FD ultrashort-pulsed femtosecond source is available for cold-ablation texturing on heat-sensitive materials where zero heat-affected zone is required.

At 24,000 kg machine weight and 6,420 x 3,573 x 3,687 mm dimensions, the LASER S 2500 U requires a reinforced foundation and dedicated installation space of 7,125 x 6,304 x 3,804 mm. Electrical supply is 40 kVA. Air supply requires 6 bar at 150 L/min.

Digital laser texturing replaces chemical etching with a repeatable, environmentally clean process. Textures are programmed from CAD data, enabling unlimited pattern complexity, seamless grain matching across multi-cavity molds, and instant design iteration without the lead times and hazardous chemicals of traditional etching.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the LASER S 2500 U compare to the LASER S 1200 U?

The 2500 U is dramatically larger: 2,500x2,000 vs 1,200x900 mm travel, 10,000 vs 1,200 kg capacity, 24,000 vs 9,170 kg machine weight. It handles automotive body panel molds that the 1200 U cannot accommodate.

02 What foundation requirements does the 2500 U need?

A reinforced concrete foundation capable of supporting 24,000 kg machine weight plus up to 10,000 kg workpiece weight. The installation space is 7,125 x 6,304 mm. Consult GF Machining Solutions for specific foundation specifications.

03 Can the 2500 U texture an entire bumper mold in one setup?

Yes. The 2,700 x 2,300 mm workpiece envelope and 10,000 kg capacity accommodate the largest automotive bumper molds. The 5-axis articulation provides access to complex 3D surfaces in a single setup.

04 Is the femtosecond laser source standard?

No. The nanosecond Flexipulse is the standard source. The femtosecond 100W Femto IR FD is an optional upgrade for applications requiring cold ablation with zero heat-affected zone.
