Price estimate
We do not have a price for the FANUC Robodrill α-D14MiBADV Plus that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The FANUC Robodrill α-D14MiBADV Plus is a 14-tool compact vertical machining center with 500 x 400 x 400 mm (19.7 x 15.7 x 15.7 in) travels, a 300 kg (660 lb) table load and the 3-axis FANUC Series 31i-B Plus control. The spindle is where a buyer has the most to decide.
Five spindles are listed. The standard one runs at 10,000 rpm. The high-torque spindle is described as being for heavy machining of steel parts and is rated at a maximum of 100 Nm (73.7 ft-lbf). The high-acceleration spindle is described as being for high speed and high efficiency machining of aluminum parts. A tapping spindle is listed at 12,000 rpm, a figure the speed row gives for tapping / high-acceleration together, and a high-speed spindle at 24,000 rpm. These are separate rows, so the 100 Nm figure and the 24,000 rpm figure should not be assumed to belong to the same machine. On a new order or a used machine, establish which spindle is fitted.
Z travel is the other thing that sets this variant apart. The Robodrill α-D14MiB shares the X and Y travels, the 14 tools and the control, and has 330 mm (13 in) of Z. The extra height here gives room for a taller vise or fixture and for longer drills without running out of stroke.
The 300 kg table load leaves room for a fixture plate and several vises as well as the parts, though the sum should still be checked when the workholding is steel. What the variant does not add is tools. It holds 14, and the Robodrill α-D21MiB holds 21 with the shorter 330 mm Z. For rotary-axis work the Robodrill α-D14MiB5ADV has these same travels and tool count with the Series 31i-B5 Plus control.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 400 mm (15.7 in) of Z travel, against 330 mm (13 in) on the Robodrill α-D14MiB
- High-torque spindle option rated at a maximum of 100 Nm (73.7 ft-lbf), described by FANUC as for heavy machining of steel parts
- High-speed spindle option at 24,000 rpm and a tapping spindle at 12,000 rpm, alongside the 10,000 rpm standard spindle
- 300 kg (660 lb) table load on a 500 x 400 mm (19.7 x 15.7 in) X/Y envelope
- High-acceleration spindle listed for high speed and high efficiency machining of aluminum parts
Limitations
- Holds 14 tools; the Robodrill α-D21MiB carries 21
- The 100 Nm torque and the 24,000 rpm speed are listed for different spindle options, so check which spindle a machine actually has
- 3-axis Series 31i-B Plus control; the Series 31i-B5 Plus is on the Robodrill α-D14MiB5ADV
- No spindle power figure is listed, and torque is given for the high-torque option only

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Five: a standard spindle at 10,000 rpm, a high-torque spindle for heavy machining of steel parts, a high-acceleration spindle for high speed and high efficiency machining of aluminum parts, a tapping spindle at 12,000 rpm and a high-speed spindle at 24,000 rpm. Everything other than the standard spindle is an option.
02
FANUC lists a maximum of 100 Nm (73.7 ft-lbf) for the high-torque spindle and describes it as being for heavy machining of steel parts. It is an option. The table gives no torque figure for the standard 10,000 rpm spindle or for the tapping and high-speed spindles, and no spindle power figure, so ask for the full spindle data before planning heavy cuts.
03
In the travels, the difference is Z: the Robodrill α-D14MiB has 330 mm (13 in) and this model has 400 mm (15.7 in). X at 500 mm (19.7 in), Y at 400 mm (15.7 in), the 14 tools and the FANUC Series 31i-B Plus control are common to both.
04
300 kg (660 lb). That figure covers everything on the table: fixture plate, vises and parts. The listed figures do not include the table dimensions, so get those from FANUC before laying out a multi-vise setup.
05
It is listed as a 3-axis machine with the FANUC Series 31i-B Plus control. The Robodrill α-D14MiB5ADV has the same 500 x 400 x 400 mm travels and 14 tools with the Series 31i-B5 Plus control.
