Excetek ED30C — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Excetek ED30C that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Excetek or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Excetek ED30C is the smallest CNC die sinking EDM in the ED series, with 300 mm (11.8 in) of X travel, 250 mm (9.8 in) of Y and 300 mm (11.8 in) of Z. Excetek's one-line description of it is "Compact with easy operation performance", and the figures bear that out: the whole installation, counting machine body, travel, tank and generator, fits in 2,340 x 1,690 x 2,250 mm (92.1 x 66.5 x 88.6 in) and the machine weighs 1,450 kg (3,197 lb).

Part of the reason is the dielectric system. The 350 L oil filter tank is built in, with two paper filters, so there is no separate tank to place beside the machine. The work table measures 650 x 350 mm (25.6 x 13.8 in), wider than the X stroke, and carries up to 550 kg (1,213 lb).

Electrode weight is limited to 50 kg (110 lb). That is the same limit Excetek gives for the ED400C, a machine nearly twice as heavy, so the head is not the weak point of the small model. Travel is. With 300 x 250 mm under the electrode, the ED30C is a machine for inserts, small cavities, ribs and connector tooling, not for mold bases.

The generator uses a MOSFET sparking circuit, which the maker credits with low electrode wear, and is built from front and back modules with fuse protection on each circuit. The ED Series catalogue adds roller type linear guide ways, AC servo motors, a work table hardened to HRC50 and 18 kinds of OB modes for orbiting. An automatic electrode changer, a C axis, X/Y/Z linear scales and the tungsten carbide sparking circuit are optional equipment.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Whole installation fits 2,340 x 1,690 x 2,250 mm (92.1 x 66.5 x 88.6 in), generator and tank included
  • Built-in 350 L oil filter tank with 2 paper filters
  • 50 kg (110 lb) electrode weight, the same figure as the larger ED400C
  • MOSFET sparking circuit and a modular generator with fuse protection on each circuit
  • Work table of 650 x 350 mm (25.6 x 13.8 in) carrying 550 kg (1,213 lb)

Limitations

  • Travels of 300 mm (11.8 in), 250 mm (9.8 in) and 300 mm (11.8 in) in X, Y and Z limit it to small cavities
  • 550 kg (1,213 lb) workpiece weight; the ED400C carries 1,000 kg (2,205 lb)
  • The ATC, C axis and X/Y/Z linear scales are optional equipment in the ED Series catalogue
  • Tungsten carbide sparking circuit and oil cooling system are options

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big is the ED30C?

The outside dimensions are 2,340 x 1,690 x 2,250 mm (92.1 x 66.5 x 88.6 in), a figure that Excetek states includes machine body, travel, tank and generator. Machine weight is 1,450 kg (3,197 lb). The oil filter tank is built in.

02 What are the travels and table size of the ED30C?

X travel is 300 mm (11.8 in), Y travel 250 mm (9.8 in) and Z travel 300 mm (11.8 in). The work table is 650 x 350 mm (25.6 x 13.8 in) and the maximum workpiece weight is 550 kg (1,213 lb).

03 How does the ED30C compare with the ED400C?

The ED400C is the next size up: 400 mm (15.7 in) of X, 300 mm (11.8 in) of Y and 350 mm (13.8 in) of Z, with a 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) workpiece limit and a 450 L built-in tank. Both machines are listed with a 50 kg (110 lb) maximum electrode weight. The ED400C weighs 2,800 kg (6,173 lb) against 1,450 kg (3,197 lb) for the ED30C.

04 Does the ED30C have an automatic electrode changer?

Not as standard. The ED Series catalogue lists "4 & 6 optional ATC / 16 & 20 Robomatic ATC (Optional)" under automation, and names an Auto Tool Changer under optional equipment together with a C axis and an edge finder ball. Standard equipment covers the flushing unit, a 1/2 drill chuck, clamp jig, working lamp and extinguisher.
