The Sodick K3BL is a mid-size drilling EDM with a long, narrow working area: 300 mm of X, 200 mm of Y and 300 mm of Z travel over a 600 × 300 mm table, with workpieces up to 300 kg. Sodick lists it among its drilling machines.
The layout favours long parts. The table is twice as long as it is deep, and X is the longer stroke, so a bar, a strip die or a long plate sits across the machine with its row of holes along X. That is the opposite of the K3HS, which pairs the same 300 mm of X with 400 mm of Y and a 480 × 790 mm table for parts that are deeper than they are wide.
A 300 kg limit covers mould plates and die sections that the K1-size machines cannot hold. The footprint is 1,130 × 1,645 × 2,360 mm. The table gives no electrode diameter range or drilling rate; ask Sodick for them before quoting deep or very small holes.
