Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Excetek ED1400C that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Excetek ED1400C is a large-table CNC die sinking EDM: 1,400 mm (55.1 in) of X travel, 700 mm (27.6 in) of Y and 500 mm (19.7 in) of Z over a work table of 1,700 x 950 mm (66.9 x 37.4 in). Among the ED models that have their own product page it is the biggest before the ED2200C-2H and ED3000-2H CE, whose travel rows are printed in a different form.
Its proportions are those of a bumper, dashboard or appliance-panel tool. The stroke is twice as long as it is wide, and the maximum workpiece, 2,100 x 1,200 x 500 mm (82.7 x 47.2 x 19.7 in) at up to 6,000 kg (13,228 lb), overhangs the travel on every side. Z is no deeper than on the ED800C. What the buyer gets for the larger machine is plan area and load, not cavity depth.
The head is rated for a 450 kg (992 lb) electrode. On a part this size, the practical alternative to one heavy electrode is many setups with smaller ones, each needing its own alignment, so that rating is a productivity figure as much as a structural one. The ED Series catalogue's measurement cycles for edge finding and for inner, outer and corner centres serve the same purpose on a workpiece too large to indicate by hand.
Everything about the installation is on a larger scale. The machine weighs 8,000 kg (17,637 lb) and, with travel, tank and generator, occupies 3,700 x 3,930 x 3,260 mm (145.7 x 154.7 x 128.3 in). The separate oil filter tank is 2,600 x 1,600 x 580 mm (102.4 x 63.0 x 22.8 in), holds 2,200 L, weighs 600 kg (1,323 lb) and takes eight paper filters. Budget the first fill of dielectric and the fire protection around that volume.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 1,400 mm (55.1 in) by 700 mm (27.6 in) table stroke with a 1,700 x 950 mm (66.9 x 37.4 in) work table
- Workpieces up to 2,100 x 1,200 x 500 mm (82.7 x 47.2 x 19.7 in) and 6,000 kg (13,228 lb)
- 450 kg (992 lb) maximum electrode weight
- 2,200 L oil filter tank with 8 paper filters
- Edge finding and inner, outer and corner centre measurement listed in the ED Series catalogue
Limitations
- Z travel is 500 mm (19.7 in), the same as the much smaller ED800C
- 8,000 kg (17,637 lb) machine and a 600 kg (1,323 lb) tank holding 2,200 L of oil
- Installation needs 3,700 x 3,930 mm (145.7 x 154.7 in) of floor and 3,260 mm (128.3 in) of height
- X/Y/Z linear scales and the oil chiller are optional equipment in the catalogue

03
Z travel is the same at 500 mm (19.7 in). The ED1400C has the longer table stroke and carries 6,000 kg (13,228 lb) and a 450 kg (992 lb) electrode. The ED800C has 800 mm (31.5 in) of X and 600 mm (23.6 in) of Y, a 4,000 kg (8,818 lb) workpiece limit and a 350 kg (772 lb) electrode limit.
04
It is a separate unit of 2,600 x 1,600 x 580 mm (102.4 x 63.0 x 22.8 in) with a capacity of 2,200 L, an empty weight of 600 kg (1,323 lb) and eight paper filters. The overall installation figure of 3,700 x 3,930 x 3,260 mm (145.7 x 154.7 x 128.3 in) includes the tank and the generator.
