Overview
The DN Solutions Puma V8300 is a vertical turning center built for mid-size chucking work where you need the gravity-loading advantage of a vertical spindle but don't need the footprint of a full-size VTL. With a 15-inch chuck and 830 mm (33 in) max turning diameter, it slots right into the sweet spot for brake rotors, gear blanks, bearing housings, and flanges that are too heavy or awkward for a horizontal lathe chuck.
The spindle delivers 37 kW (50 hp) with 2,592 Nm (1,912 ft-lb) of torque at speeds up to 2,000 RPM. That torque number is the headline — nearly 2,600 Nm means you can hog material off rough castings and forgings without worrying about stalling or chatter. The box-way construction on both axes backs up that cutting aggression with the rigidity to hold tolerance through heavy interrupted cuts.
Axis travels of 495 mm (19 in) on X and 780 mm (31 in) on Z give you room for deep boring and long face-turning operations. The 12-station turret handles complex multi-tool jobs without manual intervention. At 9,400 kg (20,723 lb), it's substantial enough to absorb vibration but not so massive that it requires special foundation work. The Fanuc control with iHMI keeps the operator interface familiar for shops already running DN Solutions or Doosan equipment.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 2,592 Nm (1,912 ft-lb) of spindle torque is massive for a 15-inch chuck machine — handles the heaviest interrupted cuts on rough castings
- Vertical spindle uses gravity for part loading, eliminating the struggle of chucking heavy, short workpieces on horizontal lathes
- 37 kW (50 hp) spindle power with box-way construction delivers aggressive roughing capability with excellent vibration damping
- Chips fall away from the workpiece naturally in vertical orientation, improving surface finish and reducing recutting
- 9,400 kg machine weight provides stability without requiring special foundation preparation like larger VTLs
Limitations
- 2,000 RPM max spindle speed limits finishing performance on smaller diameters where higher RPM would improve surface speed
- No Y-axis or live tooling on the base V8300 — the V8300M variant adds milling capability at additional cost
- 3,636 mm (143 in) overall height requires adequate ceiling clearance and may need overhead crane access for maintenance
- 20 m/min rapid traverse is slower than horizontal lathes, adding non-cutting time in multi-operation cycles

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New Puma V8300 machines run $180,000-$260,000 depending on options. The V8300M variant with live tooling and C-axis adds $30-50K. Used machines from the Doosan era can be found in the $80,000-$140,000 range depending on condition and hours.
02
The V8300 is a 2-axis turning-only machine. The V8300M adds C-axis positioning and live (rotary) tooling on the turret, enabling milling, drilling, and tapping operations. If your parts need cross-drilled holes or milled features, the M variant eliminates a second operation on a machining center.
03
The PV 9300 steps up to a 24-inch chuck with 930 mm max turning diameter versus the V8300's 15-inch chuck and 830 mm capacity. The 9300 is significantly larger and heavier at approximately 20,000+ kg. Choose the V8300 for mid-size work; the PV 9300 for the largest castings.
04
Yes. The vertical orientation makes the V8300 well-suited for gantry loader or robot automation. Parts can be loaded from above directly into the chuck. DN Solutions offers automation packages, or third-party integrators can add robot loading cells.
