Overview

The DN Solutions LYNX 2600 SY is the full-capability variant of the LYNX 2600 series, combining a sub-spindle, Y-axis, and live tooling with a 10-inch chuck. The designation says it all: S (sub-spindle), Y (Y-axis). This is a done-in-one production machine for mid-size parts that need off-center milling features on both ends — all from bar stock in a single unattended cycle.

The main spindle delivers 18.5 kW (25 hp) at 3,500 RPM with 403 Nm (297 ft-lb) of torque through the 10-inch (254 mm) chuck. That torque figure punches well above the LYNX 2100 series and provides serious roughing authority in steel, stainless, and alloy steels. Max turning diameter is 380 mm (15 in) with 610 mm (24 in) of turning length. The sub-spindle picks up parts for backside machining, producing complete parts without operator intervention.

The Y-axis provides ±52.5 mm (±2.07 in) of off-center travel, and the 12-station turret runs live tools at 6,000 RPM. Axis travels span 255 mm (10 in) on X, ±52.5 mm on Y, and 680 mm (27 in) on Z. Rapid traverse runs at 30/15/30 m/min on X/Y/Z. Machine weight is approximately 5,500 kg (12,125 lb) with a footprint of around 3,500 mm (138 in).

The LYNX 2600 SY bridges a critical gap between the LYNX 2100 series (max 8-inch chuck) and the PUMA series (heavier, pricier). If your parts need a 10-inch chuck with Y-axis and sub-spindle capability but the PUMA is more machine than you need, this is the sweet spot. Hydraulic manifolds, automotive hubs, valve bodies, and mid-size fittings with complex features on both ends are exactly what this machine was designed to produce. FANUC 0i-TF Plus control is standard. Specs sourced from DN Solutions published data.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 10-inch chuck with Y-axis and sub-spindle — full done-in-one capability on mid-size parts
  • 403 Nm torque handles aggressive roughing in steel, stainless, and alloy materials
  • Sub-spindle enables complete part machining on both ends without operator intervention
  • Y-axis with ±52.5 mm travel provides true off-center milling for flats, hexagons, and pockets
  • Bridges the gap between LYNX 2100 and PUMA series in capability and price
  • 6,000 RPM live tooling on a 12-station turret provides versatile secondary operation capability

Limitations

  • 3,500 RPM max spindle speed limits high-speed work on small-diameter aluminum parts
  • 5,500 kg weight and 3,500 mm length are significantly larger than LYNX 2100 variants
  • ±52.5 mm Y-axis travel is the same as the smaller 2100 series — no increase with the larger machine
  • 18.5 kW spindle power may be limiting for heavy interrupted cuts on large-diameter workpieces

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the LYNX 2600 SY compare to the LYNX 2600 M?

The LYNX 2600 M has live tooling but no Y-axis and no sub-spindle. The 2600 SY adds both, enabling off-center milling and done-in-one machining. The SY costs roughly $50-70K more but eliminates second-op setups and enables unattended production of complete parts.

02 How does it compare to a PUMA DNT 2100 with Y-axis?

The PUMA DNT uses box-way construction (heavier, more rigid) while the LYNX uses linear guides (faster rapids, more compact). The LYNX 2600 SY offers a larger work envelope (380 mm vs 320 mm turning diameter) in a lighter package. The PUMA excels at heavy cutting; the LYNX at faster cycle times.

03 Can the LYNX 2600 SY run lights-out?

Yes. With a bar feeder, parts catcher, chip conveyor, and coolant management, the 2600 SY runs unattended production. The sub-spindle produces complete parts, and the FANUC control handles automatic part transfer programming.

04 What bar stock size can I run?

The 10-inch chuck's spindle bore typically accommodates bar stock up to approximately 76 mm (3 in) diameter. For exact bore specifications and bar feeder compatibility, consult with your DN Solutions dealer.
