Overview
The DN Solutions DVF 4000 is the compact sibling to the popular DVF 5000, sharing the same traveling-column 5-axis architecture but scaled down to target shops that need genuine simultaneous 5-axis capability without the floor space or budget demands of a larger machine. The DVF series uses a traveling-column design where the column moves in X and the table provides B and C rotation — a layout that keeps the workpiece stationary on the rotary axes and delivers consistent table load capacity regardless of X-axis position.
Axis travels measure 500 x 380 x 380 mm (19.7 x 15 x 15 in) on X/Y/Z. The B-axis tilts from -30 to +110 degrees and the C-axis rotates a full 360 degrees continuously, providing access to nearly all five faces of a workpiece in a single setup. The 400 mm (15.7 in) diameter direct-drive C-axis table accepts workpieces up to 430 mm (16.9 in) in diameter and 380 mm (15 in) tall with a 300 kg (661 lb) load capacity.
The standard spindle delivers 18,000 RPM through a BBT 40 taper with 18.5 kW (25 hp) and 98 Nm (72 ft-lb) of torque — a high-speed configuration optimized for aluminum aerospace work and complex precision parts. A 12,000 RPM high-torque option with 170 Nm is available for shops cutting harder materials like titanium, steel, and Inconel. The spindle motor provides adequate power for 5-axis contouring in most production materials at this scale.
Rapid traverse hits 40 m/min (1,575 ipm) on all three linear axes, and the direct-drive B and C axes move at 50 rpm. The standard 30-tool ATC (expandable to 60) handles multi-tool programs. Control options follow the DVF family pattern: FANUC 31i-B5, Heidenhain TNC 640, or Siemens 840D — giving shops the flexibility to standardize on their preferred platform.
At approximately 5,500 kg (12,125 lb), the DVF 4000 is notably lighter than the DVF 5000, allowing installation on standard shop floors without special foundation work. The compact 2,580 x 2,040 mm footprint makes it one of the more space-efficient 5-axis machining centers available. This positions the DVF 4000 as an entry point to production 5-axis machining for medical device manufacturers, precision aerospace subcontractors, and job shops adding first-article 5-axis capability.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Traveling-column architecture maintains consistent 300 kg table load capacity across the full X-axis travel range, a key advantage over trunnion-style machines
- Three control options (FANUC, Heidenhain, Siemens) let shops choose the platform that matches existing operator skills and toolpath software
- Compact 2,580 x 2,040 mm footprint and 5,500 kg weight install on standard shop floors without special foundation reinforcement
- B-axis range of -30° to +110° provides full access to undercuts and compound angles that index-only 4+1 machines cannot reach
- 18,000 RPM BBT 40 spindle handles aluminum aerospace work at high surface speeds while the high-torque option extends capability to titanium and steel
Limitations
- 500 mm X-travel and 380 mm Y-travel are smaller than the DVF 5000 (625 x 450 mm), limiting maximum workpiece size
- 300 kg table load is modest — heavy workpieces and large fixtures may push this limit in real production use
- 30-tool standard magazine fills quickly on complex 5-axis jobs; the 60-tool upgrade is often necessary for production work
- BBT 40 taper trails HSK-A63 in rigidity at high speeds and under interrupted cutting loads in difficult materials
- DN Solutions' service network density in North America is still growing post-Doosan rebrand, which can affect support response times

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New DVF 4000 machines price between $280,000 and $420,000 depending on spindle option, control platform, and tooling options. Base machines with FANUC and 30-tool ATC start around $280,000-$320,000. Adding the Heidenhain TNC 640, 60-tool magazine, high-pressure coolant, and through-spindle coolant pushes toward $380,000-$420,000. Used machines from dealer stock are rare but occasionally appear in the $180,000-$250,000 range.
02
The DVF 5000 has 625 mm X-travel vs the DVF 4000's 500 mm, and 450 mm Y-travel vs 380 mm. The DVF 5000 also has a larger 500 mm table diameter (vs 400 mm) and 400 kg table load (vs 300 kg). Both machines share the same traveling-column architecture and control options. Choose the DVF 4000 for smaller parts and tighter budgets; the DVF 5000 when you need a larger work envelope and heavier workpieces.
03
Yes, with the high-torque 12,000 RPM spindle option. The standard 18,000 RPM spindle with 98 Nm torque is tuned for aluminum and light cuts in steel. The 170 Nm high-torque spindle option is the right choice for titanium Ti-6Al-4V roughing and contouring. The BBT 40 taper handles titanium at moderate MRR — for the most demanding titanium work, an HSK-A63 machine like the DMG Mori DMU 50 may be more appropriate.
04
Yes. DN Solutions offers AWC (Automatic Workpiece Changer) pallet automation for the DVF series. Options range from a basic 2-pallet system up to multi-pallet configurations. The AWC significantly improves spindle utilization for high-mix production shops running multiple part programs in rotation. Configuration details should be confirmed with your local DN Solutions dealer.
05
FANUC 31i-B5 is the most common choice in North America due to wide operator familiarity and strong dealer support. Heidenhain TNC 640 is preferred for complex simultaneous 5-axis programs, particularly in aerospace and mold work where its TCPM and cycle-based programming excels. Siemens 840D is the choice for shops already standardized on Siemens across other machines. Forum users consistently recommend FANUC for ease of daily operation unless your programmers are already Heidenhain-trained.
