Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Colchester Storm VH-2000 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Nothing in the Storm range carries more than the Colchester Storm VH-2000. Its 2,200 x 850 mm (86.6 x 33.5 in) table is rated for 2,500 kg (5,511 lb), and the axes travel 2,000 mm (78.7 in) in X, 900 mm (35.4 in) in Y and 800 mm (31.5 in) in Z on box ways.
It is Colchester's answer for the largest work a C-frame vertical can sensibly take. Think of injection mould bases for automotive trim, large press dies, engine and gearbox castings for off-highway equipment, and long structural parts in steel. Jobs like these combine weight with long machining times, and a slide system chosen for damping suits them.
The spindle is a 15 kW (20.1 hp) BT40 at 10,000 rpm. For the size of the machine that is restrained, and it is the point to discuss with the supplier: Colchester says a geared head spindle configuration is available in the VH series for heavier cutting and higher removal rates. A buyer cutting large steel dies should ask for it to be quoted.
Clearance under the spindle is 200 - 1,000 mm (7.9 - 39.4 in), and the table uses 5 T-slots of 22 mm (0.9 in). The tool changer holds 24 tools on twin arms. Site planning is a large part of a purchase like this. Because the page lists no weight, footprint, power or foundation requirement, get those in writing early, together with the craneage needed to load a 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) workpiece.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) table load, the highest in the Storm range
- 2,000 x 900 x 800 mm (78.7 x 35.4 x 31.5 in) travels
- Box ways for long, heavy cuts
- 2,200 x 850 mm (86.6 x 33.5 in) table with 22 mm (0.9 in) T-slots
- Geared head spindle configuration available
Limitations
- Standard spindle is a 15 kW (20.1 hp) BT40, light for the machine's size
- Spindle nose stays at least 200 mm (7.9 in) above the table
- 24-tool magazine on a machine that will run long cycles
- No weight, footprint or power figures are published

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X travel is 2,000 mm (78.7 in), Y travel 900 mm (35.4 in) and Z travel 800 mm (31.5 in). The table is 2,200 x 850 mm (86.6 x 33.5 in). Overall machine dimensions and weight are not given on Colchester's page.
02
The maximum table load is 2,500 kg (5,511 lb), including fixtures. The next box-way model down, the Storm VH-1600, is rated for 2,200 kg (4,850 lb) on an 1,800 x 840 mm (70.9 x 33.1 in) table.
03
The Storm VL-2090 has the same X and Y travels and table size on linear guideways, with 850 mm (33.5 in) of Z, an 11 kW (14.8 hp) spindle and a 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) table load. The VH-2000 has box ways, 15 kW (20.1 hp) and the higher load rating.
04
The standard spindle is BT40, 15 kW (20.1 hp), 10,000 rpm. Colchester offers a geared head spindle configuration in the VH series for heavier cutting applications. The page gives no torque for either, so compare the figures in the quotation with the cutters you plan to run.
