Overview

The CMS Evotech is a family of three mobile-gantry machining centres for plastics and advanced materials, sold as EVOTECH 250, EVOTECH 400 and EVOTECH 500. The number is the maximum Z axis work-piece passage: 250 mm (9.8 in), 350 mm (13.8 in) and 500 mm (19.7 in).

Speed rises with the model. In the PRO SPEED version the X-Y-Z axes reach 60-60-30 m/min on the EVOTECH 250, 90-90-30 m/min on the EVOTECH 400 and 95-90-30 m/min on the EVOTECH 500. The PRO SPACE version holds X to 25 m/min on all three, so the gap between the two versions is widest on the largest machine.

The spindle line-up changes too. CMS lists a main electrospindle of 12 kW (16.1 hp) on the EVOTECH 250 and 17 kW (22.8 hp) on the two larger models, and describes its PRISMA operating units as having 5 interpolating axes. A separate 3- or 4-axis electrospindle of 15 kW (20.1 hp) is offered on the EVOTECH 250 and EVOTECH 400 but not on the EVOTECH 500, which is the pure 5-axis model for tall parts.

All three work on an aluminium table with a built-in direct vacuum system and T-slots, so sheets can be nested and thermoformed or moulded parts can be clamped on fixtures. A drilling unit with up to 30 vertical and horizontal spindles is listed for the two smaller models and up to 26 for the EVOTECH 500. Tools are stored in 12 positions on the machining head plus a rear store of 32 or 48 positions. CMS's table gives no working area in X and Y, so table sizes have to be requested.
