Chevalier FBL-300L

The Chevalier FBL-300L is the long-bed version of the FBL-300, a box-way slant-bed lathe for shafts. Z travel is 63 in (1,600 mm), distance between centers 67.2 in (1,708 mm) and maximum cutting length 62.2 in (1,554 mm), on the same A2-8 spindle and 20 in (510 mm) cutting diameter as the short machine.

A bed this long changes the machine more than the model name suggests. Net weight is 19,800 lb (9,000 kg), where the standard FBL-300 weighs 12,760 lb (5,800 kg). Rapid traverse comes down slightly to 708 / 708 ipm (18 m/min / 18 m/min), as it usually does with a longer ball screw.

The tailstock is the important accessory on a shaft lathe, and here it is programmable with 59.4 in (1,510 mm) of travel. The quill is hydraulic, 3.5 in (90 mm) in diameter with 5.1 in (130 mm) of stroke and an MT 5 taper. A part can be loaded, supported and released under program control, which is what bar-to-shaft production with a gantry or a robot needs.

The spindle bore is 3.5 in (88 mm) and bar capacity 3.0 in (77 mm), at up to 2,500 rpm. The turret is listed with 10 tools and 12 as an option. X travel is 11.4 in (290 mm). The maker prints the same floor space for this model as for the short bed, which cannot be right, so no footprint is given here. Chevalier says the L models are the long-bed design that provides higher cutting lengths. The control is a Fanuc 0i-T.
