Overview

The ATLIX xBUILD 3000 is a laser metal additive machine for taller and larger parts: a 300 x 300 x 400 mm (11.8 x 11.8 x 15.7 in) build volume, a 500 W TRUMPF fiber laser and layers from 20 - 150 μm. Its 400 mm (15.7 in) of height is twice what the xBUILD 2000 offers in its 202 x 202 x 200 mm (8.0 x 8.0 x 7.9 in) volume, and equals the height of the xBUILD 5000, which is 500 x 500 x 400 mm (19.7 x 19.7 x 15.7 in).

The optics are set up for volume as much as detail. Beam diameter is 80 - 200 μm with defocus, and the upper end of the layer range is 150 μm. A wider spot and a thicker layer melt more material per pass, which is how the build rate reaches the top of its 30 - 200 cm³/h (1.8 - 12.2 in³/h) span; the 80 μm spot and thin layers stay available for surfaces and features that need them. Scan speed is max. 3 m/s (118 in/s) and preheating goes up to 200 °C (392 °F).

One laser is standard. ATLIX lists the optional multilaser version as 2 x 500 or 700 W, and the number of lasers as 1, optional 2. That wording leaves the exact pairing open, so have the supplier state the configuration in writing.

The machine is long and comparatively narrow at 3,385 x 1,750 x 2,070 mm (133.3 x 68.9 x 81.5 in), weighs 4,300 kg (9,480 lb) and runs on 400/460 V - 32 A - 50/60 Hz with Nitrogen or Argon as shielding gas. The table gives no oxygen concentration figure for this model.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 300 x 300 x 400 mm (11.8 x 11.8 x 15.7 in) build volume with 400 mm (15.7 in) of height
  • Layer thickness from 20 - 150 μm, with a beam diameter of 80 - 200 μm with defocus
  • Build rate of 30 - 200 cm³/h (1.8 - 12.2 in³/h)
  • Preheating up to 200 °C (392 °F)
  • Optional multilaser version listed as 2 x 500 or 700 W

Limitations

  • A single 500 W laser is standard; the second laser is an option
  • At 3,385 mm (133.3 in) in its longest dimension the machine needs a long bay
  • The table gives no oxygen concentration figure
  • Plan area stops at 300 x 300 mm (11.8 x 11.8 in); the xBUILD 5000 offers 500 x 500 mm (19.7 x 19.7 in) at the same height

Best For

Tall parts up to 400 mm (15.7 in) on a 300 x 300 mm plan Bulky sections built at layers up to 150 μm Mixed work that alternates an 80 μm spot with a defocused beam Shops that have outgrown the 200 mm (7.9 in) height of the xBUILD 2000

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How tall a part can the xBUILD 3000 build?

The build volume is 300 x 300 x 400 mm (11.8 x 11.8 x 15.7 in), so the height is 400 mm (15.7 in). The xBUILD 2000 has a 202 x 202 x 200 mm (8.0 x 8.0 x 7.9 in) volume, half that height.

02 What does beam diameter with defocus mean on the xBUILD 3000?

ATLIX lists the beam diameter as 80 - 200 μm with defocus. The spot can be widened from 80 μm up to 200 μm, and together with layers as thick as 150 μm that lets the machine melt more material per pass on bulky sections.

03 Is the xBUILD 3000 available with two lasers?

Yes, as an option. Standard laser power is 500 W from one TRUMPF fiber laser. The optional multilaser version is listed as 2 x 500 or 700 W, with the number of lasers given as 1, optional 2. Ask the supplier to confirm the exact arrangement.

04 What are the installation requirements for the xBUILD 3000?

Power supply is 400/460 V - 32 A - 50/60 Hz and the shielding gas is Nitrogen or Argon. The machine measures 3,385 x 1,750 x 2,070 mm (133.3 x 68.9 x 81.5 in) and weighs 4,300 kg (9,480 lb).
