Overview

A 4 x 8 plate sits inside the 50 x 97 in cutting envelope of the Arclight Dynamics Arc Max Unlimited 4x8 with about an inch of margin each way, and Z is 6.5 in. It is the reinforced Arc Max table built for 3 in plate, with FlashCut CNC as standard. This is the full-sheet size for shops whose plate arrives as 4 x 8 stock.

A plate 3 in thick is a load before it is a cut, and the Unlimited is built around that. Legs are gusseted, slats are 4.5 in deep, and Arclight lists 6,235 lb of weight capacity for this size on a reinforced, fully welded frame of 3 x 3 in tubing. The gantry is the low-mass aluminum dual-drive design with 8.5 in of clearance, on Hiwin 20 mm linear guide rails, with NEMA 34 stepper motors rated 940 oz. Positioning accuracy is listed as 0.001 in.

The table weighs 3,000 lb empty and its water pan takes 250 gallons, so it is not something to reposition casually. Base dimensions are 58 x 109 in; overall dimensions are listed as 120 in L x 76 in W x 60 in H. With only an inch or so of spare envelope, plate has to be squared carefully or corrected in the control.

Arclight designs this series to be integrated with a Hypertherm MAXPRO200 or an oxy-fuel torch, which is how the thick end of the range gets cut; neither is part of the base table. FlashCut CNC is the standard control, an integrated CAD/CAM/CNC program with true shape nesting over multiple files and sheets and a fix tool for imported drawings. The water pan is 8 1/2 in deep in 12g steel with twin 1.25 in ball valve drains.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Frame designed for 3 in mild steel plate, with 6,235 lb of listed weight capacity
  • FlashCut CNC standard, with integrated CAD/CAM/CNC and true shape nesting
  • NEMA 34 steppers rated 940 oz on Hiwin 20 mm linear guide rails
  • 50 x 97 in envelope takes a full 4 x 8 plate

Limitations

  • The heavy cutting source it is designed around is not included with the base table
  • Stepper motors, not servos, move a table intended for heavy plate
  • Little spare envelope around a 4 x 8 plate, so it must be placed square

Best For

Full 4 x 8 plate and sheet Structural brackets, base plates and flanges Heavy plate and structural work up to 3 in mild steel

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Will a full 4 x 8 plate fit the Arc Max Unlimited 4x8?

Yes. The cutting envelope is 50 x 97 in with 6.5 in of Z, about an inch more than the plate in each direction. The table is rated for 3 in mild steel.

02 Which cutting processes is the Arc Max Unlimited designed for?

Arclight says the Unlimited series is designed to be integrated with a Hypertherm MAXPRO200 or an oxy-fuel torch. The cutting source is not part of the base table and is selected when the table is configured.

03 How heavy is the Arc Max Unlimited 4x8?

Arclight lists 3,000 lb. The base is 58 x 109 in, overall dimensions are 120 in L x 76 in W x 60 in H, and the water pan adds 250 gallons when full, so check the floor before delivery.

04 How does the Arc Max Unlimited differ from the Arc Max Elite?

In the structure. The comparison on Arclight's page gives the Unlimited a 3 in mild steel plate capacity and 4.5 in slat depth, against 2 in and 2.5 in for the Elite, with a frame reinforced by gusseted legs. Both run FlashCut CNC.
