Overview

Five axes in a cabinet 910 mm wide: that is the Willemin-Macodel 308S2. It takes the 270 mm, 120 mm and 220 mm travels of the 301S2 and puts a swivelling spindle and a C-axis divider where that machine has a slotted table. The maker aims it at small, complex prismatic parts, from billets or on pallets.

The B axis is the spindle pivot. A torque motor moves it from -35° to +115° at up to 200 min-1 with 0.0001° resolution, which Willemin-Macodel sums up as angular movement over 150°. Below it, the C-axis divider is also driven by a torque motor, with 20 nm of S1 torque and 38 nm rated. Its plate is Ø120 mm and it carries 12 kg.

Turning is possible but it is the bracketed figure: the divider runs at 200 min-1 in milling mode and (4,000 min-1) in turning mode. Check that the turning mode is part of the quoted machine before planning turned diameters on it.

The spindle is HSK-A32 at 40,000 min-1, or 60,000 min-1 in brackets, lubricated by air-oil. A 28-position pick-up magazine changes tools in 6 sec, 10 sec chip to chip. With only 20 m/min on the linear axes this is a machine for precise work on small parts, and the 408S2 is the step up when 40 m/min and a Ø180 mm plate are needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the rotary axes of the 308S2?

A B axis that pivots the spindle from -35° to +115° at up to 200 min-1, and a C-axis divider under the part. Both are driven by torque motors and the B axis resolves 0.0001°. The divider has a Ø120 mm plate and a load capacity of 12 kg.

02 Can the 308S2 turn?

The C-axis divider is listed at 200 min-1 in milling mode and (4,000 min-1) in turning mode. The turning figure is printed in brackets, the way the page marks alternatives to the base equipment, so confirm it is included before relying on it.

03 How large a workpiece can the 308S2 take?

Willemin-Macodel states machining of parts up to a diameter of 120 mm, which matches the Ø120 mm plate of the divider. Load capacity is 12 kg. Linear travels are 270 mm, 120 mm and 220 mm in X, Y and Z.

04 What is the difference between the 308S2 and the 408S2?

The 408S2 is the larger 5-axis machine: 250 mm, 200 mm and 310 mm of travel at 40 m/min, a Ø180 mm plate and an HSK-E40 spindle with a 48-tool magazine. The 308S2 has 270 mm, 120 mm and 220 mm at 20 m/min, a Ø120 mm plate, HSK-A32 and 28 tools.
