Tsugami B0203-VR

The Tsugami B0203-VR is a 3-axis Swiss-type CNC automatic lathe with 20 mm (0.8 in) bar capacity, built on Tsugami's VR-generation platform with ceramic ball bearings and the proprietary chuck mechanism. This is the front-side-only version of the 20 mm opposed gang tool post lineup — no sub spindle, keeping it simple and cost-effective for parts that don't need backworking.

The main spindle speed is estimated at 10,000 RPM based on the B020x series architecture, with an estimated 2.2/3.7 kW motor providing more torque than the 12 mm-class machines. That extra power is necessary at 20 mm diameter, where cutting forces are significantly higher. The 20 mm capacity opens the door to a wider range of parts — hydraulic fittings, larger medical implants, automotive shaft components, and industrial connectors.

An estimated 21 tool positions on the opposed gang tool post provide solid tooling capacity for straightforward Swiss turning operations. The rapid traverse rate is estimated at 32 m/min, and the headstock stroke at approximately 210 mm gives good machining length capability. The convertible guide bushing design means you can run with the guide bushing for long slender parts or switch to guide-bushless (chucker) mode for shorter parts.

The VR generation's ceramic ball bearings on the front bearing deliver better accuracy retention over extended production runs. The proprietary chuck mechanism provides faster, more balanced clamping than older toggle designs. Note that the B0203-VR's specs are estimated from the B0205-III series, as Tsugami doesn't publish separate detailed specifications for this 3-axis variant. For shops producing simple 20 mm Swiss parts at high volume without backworking needs, the B0203-VR offers the lowest entry cost in the 20 mm VR lineup.
