Overview

The Takisawa TG-6000 is a series of large CNC lathes for chucks from 15 to 28 in (381 to 711 mm), with a maximum turning diameter of 760 mm (29.9 in) and turning lengths from 1,031 mm (40.6 in) to 4,031 mm (158.7 in). It is sold as seven models, and choosing one means making three separate decisions: bed length, spindle bore and whether the turret drives tools.

Bed length is in the model number. The TG-6010 turns 1,031 mm, the TG-6020 2,031 mm (80.0 in), the TG-6030CM 3,031 mm (119.3 in) and the TG-6040CM 4,031 mm. The TG-6010, TG-6020 and TG-6030 are turning machines. The CM models are listed for turning and milling, and the longest bed is offered only as the TG-6040CM.

Spindle bore and speed trade against each other across four spindles labelled A to D. The A spindle has a 131 mm (5.2 in) bore and runs to 1,200 rpm, with 2,000 rpm as an option. B is 185 mm (7.3 in) at 1,000 rpm, C is 275 mm (10.8 in) at 750 rpm, and D is 375 mm (14.8 in) at 500 rpm. A shop turning pipe or hollow shafts picks the bore first and accepts the speed that comes with it. The main motor is 37 kW (49.6 hp) on the 30-min rating and 30 kW (40.2 hp) continuous, with 45 / 37 kW (60.3 / 49.6 hp) as an option.

Turning-only models take a direct-mount turret with 8, 10 or 12 stations. Maximum turning diameter is 760 mm with the 8- or 10-station turret and 730 mm (28.7 in) with 12 stations. CM models carry a 12-station rotary-tool turret, turn up to 750 mm (29.5 in), and drive tools at 3,000 rpm with 11 kW (14.8 hp) at S3 25% and 5.5 kW (7.4 hp) continuous.

These are heavy machines. Weight runs from 15,500 kg (34,171 lb) for the TG-6010 to 21,800 kg (48,060 lb) for the TG-6040CM, and the TG-6010 with chip conveyor needs 5,848 × 2,360 mm (230.2 × 92.9 in) of floor with the A or B spindle. Rapids are 12 m/min (472 in/min) in X and 16 m/min (630 in/min) in Z on the two shorter beds, with Z at 14 m/min (551 in/min) on the longer ones.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Four spindle bores from 131 mm (5.2 in) to 375 mm (14.8 in), so the through-hole can be matched to pipe and hollow-shaft work
  • Turning lengths from 1,031 mm (40.6 in) on the TG-6010 to 4,031 mm (158.7 in) on the TG-6040CM
  • 760 mm (29.9 in) maximum turning diameter with the 8- or 10-station turret
  • 37 / 30 kW (49.6 / 40.2 hp) main motor, with a 45 / 37 kW (60.3 / 49.6 hp) option
  • CM models add a 12-station rotary-tool turret with 3,000 rpm tools and an 11 / 5.5 kW (14.8 / 7.4 hp) tool motor

Limitations

  • Spindle speed falls as the bore grows: 1,000 rpm on B, 750 rpm on C and 500 rpm on D
  • The 4,031 mm (158.7 in) bed is listed only as the TG-6040CM turning and milling model
  • Z rapid is 14 m/min (551 in/min) on the longer beds, slower than the 16 m/min (630 in/min) of the TG-6010 and TG-6020
  • A TG-6010 with chip conveyor needs 5,848 × 2,360 mm (230.2 × 92.9 in) of floor and weighs 15,500 kg (34,171 lb), so foundation and crane capacity need checking

02 What spindle bores and speeds are available?

Four spindles are listed. The A spindle has a 131 mm (5.2 in) bore and 1,200 rpm, with 2,000 rpm optional. The B spindle has a 185 mm (7.3 in) bore and 1,000 rpm. The C spindle has a 275 mm (10.8 in) bore and 750 rpm. The D spindle has a 375 mm (14.8 in) bore and 500 rpm. Chuck sizes across the series run from 15 to 28 in (381 to 711 mm).

03 How much power does the TG-6000 have?

The main spindle motor is rated 37 kW (49.6 hp) at 30-min and 30 kW (40.2 hp) continuous. A 45 / 37 kW (60.3 / 49.6 hp) motor is optional. On CM models the rotary tools run to 3,000 rpm from a motor rated 11 kW (14.8 hp) at S3 25% and 5.5 kW (7.4 hp) continuous.

04 How large and heavy is the machine?

Weights are 15,500 kg (34,171 lb) for the TG-6010, 18,000 kg (39,683 lb) for the TG-6020, 20,500 kg (45,194 lb) for the TG-6030 and 21,800 kg (48,060 lb) for the TG-6040CM. Height is 2,700 mm (106.3 in), or 2,800 mm (110.2 in) on the TG-6040CM. The TG-6010 with chip conveyor occupies 5,848 × 2,360 mm (230.2 × 92.9 in) with the A or B spindle and 5,848 × 2,465 mm with C or D.

05 Does turret choice affect turning diameter?

Yes. With the 8- or 10-station direct-mount turret the maximum turning diameter is 760 mm (29.9 in). The 12-station turret reduces it to 730 mm (28.7 in). CM models, which use a 12-station rotary-tool turret, are listed at 750 mm (29.5 in).
