Overview

The Takisawa TK-2600 is a single-spindle vertical CNC lathe with a 10 in (254 mm) chuck, a 400 mm (15.7 in) swing and a 22 kW (29.5 hp) spindle motor. It stands on 1,220 × 1,980 mm (48.0 × 78.0 in) of floor and is 2,200 mm (86.6 in) high. The pairing of that motor with a short vertical work zone points to heavy cuts on discs, hubs and flanges that sit flat in the chuck.

The main choice is how tools are carried. Takisawa lists a direct-mount turret with 6 or 8 stations, or a comb-type tool slide in its place. With the comb slide the maximum turning length is 347 mm (13.7 in); with a turret it is 257 mm (10.1 in). Among the turrets, 6 stations allow a 355 mm (14.0 in) maximum turning diameter and 8 stations allow 335 mm (13.2 in). The table gives no turning diameter for the comb slide, so ask for it. Weight follows the same choice: 3,650 kg (8,047 lb) with the comb slide and 3,750 kg (8,267 lb) with a turret.

The spindle runs to 2,000 rpm, with 2,500 rpm as an option. The standard motor is rated 22 kW at 30-min and 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) continuous. The listed option is a smaller motor, 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp), so check which motor a given machine carries. For a 10 in chuck this is a lot of power: the TCN-2600, with the same chuck size, is listed at 11 / 9 kW (14.8 / 12.1 hp). The speed ceiling is the other side of that. At 2,000 rpm, small diameters will not reach high surface speeds.

Rapids are 20 m/min (787 in/min) in both X and Z. A 600 mm swing version is available, and it widens the footprint to 1,600 × 1,980 mm (63.0 × 78.0 in). The table lists no loader, tailstock or driven tools for this model, so automation and any milling have to be discussed separately.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 22 / 18.5 kW (29.5 / 24.8 hp) spindle motor on a 10 in (254 mm) chuck, twice the 30-min power of the TCN-2600 at 11 kW (14.8 hp)
  • Floor space of 1,220 × 1,980 mm (48.0 × 78.0 in) for the 400 mm (15.7 in) swing machine
  • Choice of a 6- or 8-station direct-mount turret or a comb-type tool slide
  • Comb slide gives 347 mm (13.7 in) of turning length, against 257 mm (10.1 in) with a turret
  • A 600 mm swing version is available for larger-diameter parts

Limitations

  • Top speed is 2,000 rpm, or 2,500 rpm with the option, which limits surface speed on small diameters
  • Maximum turning diameter falls from 355 mm (14.0 in) to 335 mm (13.2 in) with the 8-station turret
  • At most 8 turret stations are listed, fewer than the 12 available on the TCC-2100
  • Rapids of 20 m/min (787 in/min) are slower than the X 24 / Z 30 m/min of the TCN-2600
06

Best For

Discs, hubs and flanges up to 355 mm (14.0 in) in diameter Heavy roughing with the 22 / 18.5 kW (29.5 / 24.8 hp) motor Short, repeated tool sequences on the comb-type tool slide Vertical loading of chucked parts within a 1,220 × 1,980 mm (48.0 × 78.0 in) footprint

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Should I choose the turret or the comb-type tool slide?

The comb slide gives more turning length, 347 mm (13.7 in) against 257 mm (10.1 in), and the machine weighs 3,650 kg (8,047 lb) instead of 3,750 kg (8,267 lb). A comb slide moves from tool to tool without indexing, which suits short cycles with a few tools. The direct-mount turret holds 6 or 8 tools and is the more flexible choice when jobs change often.

02 What is the maximum part size on the TK-2600?

Swing is 400 mm (15.7 in). Maximum turning diameter is 355 mm (14.0 in) with the 6-station turret and 335 mm (13.2 in) with the 8-station turret. Maximum turning length is 257 mm (10.1 in) with a turret and 347 mm (13.7 in) with the comb slide. A 600 mm swing version is also available.

03 How powerful is the spindle?

The standard motor is rated 22 kW (29.5 hp) at 30-min and 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) continuous. An 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp) motor is listed as the option. Maximum speed is 2,000 rpm, or 2,500 rpm as an option. The table does not state spindle torque.

04 How much room does the 600 mm swing version need?

The 600-swing version is listed at 1,600 × 1,980 mm (63.0 × 78.0 in) of floor space. The standard 400 mm (15.7 in) swing machine takes 1,220 × 1,980 mm (48.0 × 78.0 in) and stands 2,200 mm (86.6 in) high. The table does not give a separate weight or turning diameter for the larger-swing version.
