Overview
The Mazak Dual Turn 200 is a symmetrical twin-spindle, twin-turret CNC turning center: two complete turning units facing each other inside one enclosure, sharing a base, a control and a chip system. The purpose of the layout is production density — two cuts running at once within a 3420 mm × 1795 mm footprint, 2090 mm tall.
Both spindles are identical: 8" chucks, 5000 rpm, 15 kW (20 HP) peak and 11 kW (15 HP) continuous, with 325 N·m of torque. Building both sides the same way is what makes the machine flexible. Either spindle can run either operation, so a part can be split front-op and back-op across the machine, or the same operation can simply be duplicated for straight parallel output. Maximum machining diameter is Φ320 mm.
Travels are short by design — 230 mm (9 in) in X and 500 mm (20 in) in Z. That is a chucking envelope, and it is the clearest statement of intent on the spec sheet: repetitive turned parts of modest length, where the cut itself is brief and the cycle is dominated by indexing, rapid moves and part handling. Rapids of 30500 mm/min in X and 33000 mm/min in Z are sized to suit, since on short cuts the non-cutting time is what the cycle is made of.
Turret tool capacity is 24 stations, taking 25 mm shank height tools and Φ40 mm boring bars. Those are conventional sizes, so existing holders and insert stock carry over without a retooling program. There is no Y-axis and no milling spindle in the specification. That simplicity is deliberate rather than an omission, but it defines the limits clearly: parts needing cross-holes, flats or milled features still require a second operation on another machine.
At 6800 lbs the Dual Turn 200 is not a heavy machine by turning-center standards, which is consistent with its role. It is a compact, high-duty-cycle cell for shops running the same turned part in quantity, where the return comes from spindle count per square foot rather than from raw cutting power on any one spindle.
