Overview
The Star SU TRU TECH T23XM is the larger cylindrical grinder of the TRU TECH line, a precision OD machine with 20 in (500 mm) between centers and an 8 in (200 mm) maximum grind diameter. It carries a 14 in (350 mm) wheel on a 7 hp (5.2 kW) variable speed spindle, with 10 hp (7.5 kW) optional.
The wheel speed range is 500-3000 RPM. X travel is 20 in (500 mm) and Y travel is 8 in (200 mm), with maximum velocities of 50 in/min in X and 60 in/min in Y. Star Cutter lists an input increment of 0.000010 in (0.000254 mm), accuracy of ±0.00010 in (0.00254 mm) and repeatability of ±0.000050 in (0.00127 mm).
Tapers can be set mechanically as well as in the program. The workhead adjusts through ±45 degrees and the table through ±8 degrees, and the workhead is driven by a 1.3 HP motor at 50-600 RPM with an MT-4 taper. For bores, a 1/2 HP ID spindle is an option.
The machine is fully enclosed for high pressure coolant and stands on a 2.5-ton polymer base with precision ball screws. Control is a Mitsubishi CNC with a touch screen pendant and icon based conversational software, and profiles are ground with a standard 1A1 wheel in profile, plunge or peel mode. It ships on two pallets at 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg) and needs a 30 Amps supply at 208-230V 60 Hz.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 14 in (350 mm) wheel on a 7 hp (5.2 kW) variable speed spindle, with 10 hp (7.5 kW) optional
- Accuracy of ±0.00010 in (0.00254 mm) and repeatability of ±0.000050 in (0.00127 mm)
- Workhead adjusts ±45 degrees and the table ±8 degrees for taper work
- Fully enclosed for high pressure coolant, on a 2.5-ton polymer base
- Profile, plunge and peel grinding with a standard 1A1 wheel
Limitations
- Maximum grind diameter is 8 in (200 mm), an inch less than the 9 in (229 mm) of the TRU TECH TT1020M
- Axis velocities are 50 in/min in X and 60 in/min in Y, so long traverses are slow
- The ID spindle is a 1/2 HP option, suited to light internal work
- Shipping weight is 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg) on two pallets, which sets the rigging plan
