Overview

The Shibaura Machine TUE-100(S) is a wall-column vertical boring and turning mill with a live spindle, and the smallest of the three TUE sizes. Its table is 1,016 mm (40.0 in) in diameter, maximum swing is 1,200 mm (47.24 in), maximum cutting height is 850 mm (33.5 in) and the table carries 2,000 kg (4,400 lb).

The table turns at 2-600 rpm on an AC 45/37 kW (60/50 hp) drive, rated 30 min/continuous. That is a lot of motor for a 2,000 kg table load, and the 600 rpm top speed is what a small-diameter part needs to reach a useful surface speed. The TUE-150(S), with a 1,450 mm (57.08 in) table and 8,000 kg (17,600 lb), and the TUE-200(S), at 2,000 mm (78.74 in) and 15,000 kg (33,070 lb), are built for bigger and heavier work. The TUE-100(S) is the one for rings, discs, hubs and valve bodies around a metre across.

The ram travels from -510 to 750 mm (-20.1 to 28.5 in) in X and 800 mm (31.5 in) in Z. The negative X figure means the ram passes the table centre by a long way. A tool can face straight through the centre, bore on the far side of the axis, or bring the live spindle to features on either side of the part.

The (S) in the name is the live spindle: 15-3,000 rpm, AC 18.5/15 kW (24.6/20 hp) and 223 Nm (171.8 lbf-ft), with a 7/24 taper No. 50 nose. Combined with a C axis that rapids at 720 deg/min and feeds at 360 deg/min, it lets bolt circles, keyways and milled flats be finished in the turning setup.

Rapid traverse is 15,000 mm/min (590.55 ipm) in X and 12,000 mm/min (472.4 ipm) in Z, and cutting feed is 2,000 mm/min (78.74 ipm) on both. The magazine holds 18 tools and the control is the FANUC 0i-TF. Overall size is 4,880 x 5,080 x 4,350 mm (192.1 x 200.0 x 171.3 in) H x W x D.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Table speed of 2-600 rpm on an AC 45/37 kW (60/50 hp) drive
  • Live spindle with 15-3,000 rpm, AC 18.5/15 kW (24.6/20 hp) and 223 Nm (171.8 lbf-ft)
  • X travel from -510 to 750 mm (-20.1 to 28.5 in), so the ram works well past the table centre
  • 7/24 taper No. 50 spindle nose and an 18-tool magazine
  • C axis with a 720 deg/min rapid and 360 deg/min cutting feed for milling on the turned part

Limitations

  • Table load is 2,000 kg (4,400 lb); the TUE-150(S) carries 8,000 kg (17,600 lb)
  • Maximum cutting height is 850 mm (33.5 in), and no crossrail travel is listed for this size
  • 18 tools have to cover turning tools and live-spindle tools together
  • Maximum swing is 1,200 mm (47.24 in), against 2,000 mm (78.74 in) on the TUE-150(S)

Best For

Rings, discs and hubs up to 1,200 mm (47.24 in) swing Turned parts up to 2,000 kg (4,400 lb) that also need drilling or milling Smaller diameters that need table speeds up to 600 rpm Bolt circles and keyways cut with the 3,000 rpm live spindle and C axis

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size part can the TUE-100(S) turn?

Maximum swing is 1,200 mm (47.24 in) over a 1,016 mm (40.0 in) diameter table, maximum cutting height is 850 mm (33.5 in) and table load is 2,000 kg (4,400 lb). The ram moves 800 mm (31.5 in) vertically in Z, so the height that can be machined in one programmed stroke is a little less than the cutting height.

02 What does the live spindle on the TUE-100(S) offer?

It runs 15-3,000 rpm with an AC 18.5/15 kW (24.6/20 hp) motor, rated 30 min/continuous, and 223 Nm (171.8 lbf-ft) of torque. The nose is a 7/24 taper No. 50. With the C axis, which rapids at 720 deg/min and cuts at 360 deg/min, it handles drilling, tapping and milling on a part that has just been turned.

03 How fast and how powerful is the table drive?

Table speed is 2-600 rpm and the drive motor is AC 45/37 kW (60/50 hp), rated 30 min/continuous. The table does not list a table torque figure, so for heavy roughing at large diameters ask Shibaura Machine for the torque available at the low end of the speed range.

04 How does the TUE-100(S) differ from the TUE-150(S) and TUE-200(S)?

Mainly in diameter and weight. The TUE-150(S) has a 1,450 mm (57.08 in) table, 2,000 mm (78.74 in) swing and 8,000 kg (17,600 lb). The TUE-200(S) has a 2,000 mm (78.74 in) table, 2,400 mm (94.48 in) swing and 15,000 kg (33,070 lb). The TUE-100(S) is 1,016 mm (40.0 in), 1,200 mm (47.24 in) and 2,000 kg (4,400 lb). All three hold 18 tools.

05 How much room does the TUE-100(S) take up?

The listed dimensions are 4,880 x 5,080 x 4,350 mm (192.1 x 200.0 x 171.3 in), given as height, width and depth. For a machine with a 1,016 mm (40.0 in) table that is a tall installation, so check building height and the crane route over the table before the floor plan.
