Overview
The Reishauer RZ 550 grinds gears up to 560 mm in diameter by two methods on one machine: generating grinding for modules of 0.5 – 10.0 mm, and profile grinding with the B-axis for modules of 0.5 – 14 mm. Having both suits a shop whose gear sizes and batch quantities change from job to job.
Workpiece weight is 600 kg, and Reishauer states that figure including the workholding, so the fixture comes out of the allowance. Shafts up to 800 mm long are accepted. The maximum grinding stroke is 300 mm, which means the shaft length is there for holding the part, not for grinding it end to end.
Tooth counts from 5 to 800 are covered and the grinding head swivels ± 45°. The work spindle reaches 600 min⁻¹. On the wheel side, the maximum operating speed is 80 m/s with a grinding wheel of up to 300 mm diameter in 145 or 160 mm widths. Dressing rolls come in three diameters: 123, 140 and 160 mm.
Control is the Siemens SINUMERIK ONE. At 12,900 kg the RZ 550 is heavier than the RZ 160 at 9,600 kg (21,164 lb) and lighter than the RZ 1000 at 15,500 kg.
