Overview
The Palmary VIG-120 is Palmary's largest CNC vertical grinder. Its face plate is Ø1,250 mm (49.2 in), it grinds outside diameters from Ø65 to 1,200 mm, and it carries workpieces of up to 5,000 kg (11,023 lb).
That load figure is five times the VIG-80's, and it comes from a different table bearing. The standard accessory list gives the VIG-120 alone a hydrostatic working table, with its own oil tank, pump and coolant chiller. A hydrostatic table floats the load on an oil film, which is how a rotary table carries five tonnes and still turns smoothly at grinding speeds. Table speed is 10 to 100 rpm from a 5.5 kW (7.4 hp) motor.
Above the table the machine is close to the VIG-80. The built-in spindle is 22 kW (29.5 hp), 1,800 to 10,000 rpm, on HSK-E100 holders, with wheels of Ø60 to 305 mm and an automatic changer for up to 6 of them. Z travel is 700 mm (27.6 in). The difference is X, which grows to 2,252 mm (88.7 in) so that a wheel can work on either side of a ring more than a metre across.
Maximum workpiece length and outside grinding length are both 500 mm (19.7 in). Palmary's table entry for bore depth on this model is garbled, so ask for it. The machine weighs 16,000 kg (35,273 lb), holds 1,200 L (317.0 gal) of coolant and needs 42 kVA. Control is FANUC with gap control.

X and Z have a 0.0001 mm minimum setting unit and fully closed loop digital scales as standard. Palmary describes cross roller linear guideways, a honeycomb tubular bed and coolant flow isolated from the bed to reduce heat deformation. No accuracy figure is published.
