Overview

Take the VERXA bridge mill, let the crossbeam travel vertically, and the result is the Nicolas Correa VERXA W. Its W axis is 2,500 / 3,500 mm, far longer than the ram's own Z travel of 1,500 / 2,000 / 2,500 mm, and it lifts the clearance under the head to between 3,140 and 4,640 mm in four steps.

Those are heights normally associated with travelling column machines. Here they come with a workpiece that sits between two columns on a table rated 30,000 - 50,000 kg. For tall, heavy, box-shaped parts such as press frames or large gear housings, that combination avoids the long unsupported ram a fixed high bridge would need.

The beam costs some width. Y travel is 4,600 / 5,600 mm and the distance between columns 3,400 / 4,400 mm, two sizes instead of the three on the VERXA. X travel is unchanged at 6,000 - 15,000 mm, and the table grows to 5,700 - 14,700 mm long by 2,500 - 3,000 mm wide.

This is also the VERXA with the strongest spindle list. The three options are 4,000 rpm with 52 kW and 1,375 Nm, 6,000 rpm with 70 kW and 1,550 Nm, and 10,000 rpm with 42 kW and 620 Nm, all on ISO-50 Big Plus or HSK-100. Axis feed is 30 m/min in X, Y and Z.

As delivered the machine has an automatic universal head, linear scales in all axes and a Heidenhain or Siemens control. Tool magazines, a head-changer, rotary tables and zero point clamping are extras.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • W axis of 2,500 / 3,500 mm on the crossbeam, in addition to Z of 1,500 / 2,000 / 2,500 mm
  • Up to 4,640 mm from the universal head nose to the table top
  • 70 kW, 1,550 Nm spindle option at 6,000 rpm
  • Table load of 30,000 - 50,000 kg on tables up to 14,700 mm long
  • 30 m/min feed in X, Y and Z

Limitations

  • Only two width sizes: 3,400 / 4,400 mm between columns
  • No feed figure is published for the W axis
  • The moving table needs clear floor length for 6,000 - 15,000 mm of X travel
  • Tool changer, head-changer and rotary tables are optional equipment
06

Best For

Tall, heavy box-shaped parts such as press frames and large housings Mixed part heights where the beam is set per job Heavy roughing with the 70 kW, 1,550 Nm spindle Parts up to 50,000 kg that fit within 4,400 mm between columns

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does the W axis add on the VERXA W?

The crossbeam moves vertically by 2,500 / 3,500 mm. Together with the Z travel of 1,500 / 2,000 / 2,500 mm, that gives a distance between the head nose and the table top of 3,140 / 3,640 / 4,140 / 4,640 mm, where the VERXA stops at 2,140 mm.

02 How wide is the VERXA W?

Cross travel is 4,600 / 5,600 mm and the distance between columns is 3,400 / 4,400 mm. The table is 2,500 - 3,000 mm wide. The VERXA, with its fixed beam, offers three width sizes and up to 4,750 mm between columns.

03 Which spindle options are listed for the VERXA W?

Programmable speeds of 4,000 / 6,000 / 10,000 rpm with maximum power of 52 / 70 / 42 kW and maximum torque of 1,375 / 1,550 / 620 Nm. The 70 kW option does not appear in the VERXA table. Taper is ISO-50 Big Plus or HSK-100.

04 How much load does the VERXA W table take?

Between 30,000 and 50,000 kg, the same as the VERXA. The table surface is listed as 5,700 - 14,700 mm by 2,500 - 3,000 mm, and it moves under the bridge over an X travel of 6,000 - 15,000 mm.
