Overview
The Mazak VC-Ez X series is a pair of 5-axis machining centers built around a roller gear trunnion and rotary table: the VC-Ez 16X and the VC-Ez 20X. Both carry a CAT No.40 spindle at 12,000 rpm and 30 tools, and the rotary C-axis turns ±360°.
The two sizes are easy to tell apart. The VC-Ez 16X has 28 in (711 mm) of X travel with 16 in (406 mm) in both Y and Z. The VC-Ez 20X has 32 in (813 mm) of X with 20 in (508 mm) in both Y and Z. The step looks small on paper, but on a trunnion machine the usable part size is set by what clears the spindle nose and the column when the table is tilted, so Y and Z matter more than X. Draw the part and its fixture at full tilt before deciding that the smaller model is enough.
Spindle power is given as 18.5 kW (25 HP) to 19 kW (25 HP) on a 5-min. rating. That is a short-term figure, and the series table has no continuous rating and no torque, so it is not a number to compare with continuous ratings elsewhere.
Mazak describes the structure in some detail. The linear axes run on Hybrid MX Roller Guideway Systems, the ballscrews are pre-tensioned and supported at both ends, the spindle is thermally controlled, and Thermal Shield monitors castings and ambient conditions to make axis adjustments. The trunnion and rotary table are roller gear driven, which Mazak presents as the basis for fast, accurate 5-axis motion.
On the control side Mazak lists five process home screens, MAZATROL Conversational Programming, QUICK MAZATROL, Intelligent Pocket Milling and SMS, the SMOOTH machining configuration. The series table itself is short. It gives no tilt-axis range, table size, table load or rapid rates, and those decide whether a given part fits.
