Overview
The Mazak SLANT TURN 600M is the milling-equipped variant of the SLANT TURN 600, combining the largest spindle bore in the SLANT TURN lineup at 375 mm (14.76 in) with BMT live tooling and C-axis for done-in-one processing. When your workpieces weigh thousands of pounds and require both turning and drilling/tapping operations, the 600M eliminates the dangerous and time-consuming crane moves between lathe and machining center.
The SLANT TURN 600M shares the same massive platform as the 600: a 21-inch minimum chuck, 910 mm (35.83 in) max turning diameter, 375 mm (14.76 in) spindle bore, and 45 kW (60 hp) spindle at up to 800 RPM. Turning lengths range from 2,044 mm (80.47 in) on the medium bed to 4,068 mm (160.16 in) on the extra-long bed, with a long configuration at 3,179 mm (125.16 in).
The BMT live tooling turret adds cross-drilling, tapping, bolt-hole patterns, keyway cutting, and contouring capability. The C-axis provides angular indexing for precise feature placement around the workpiece circumference. The live tool motor delivers approximately 5.5 kW (7.4 hp) at up to 4,000 RPM for secondary operations.
MAZATROL SmoothG integrates turning and milling programming. The combination of the industry-leading spindle bore with milling capability makes the 600M particularly valuable for pipeline manufacturers, subsea equipment shops, and heavy industrial operations where complete processing in a single setup delivers both time savings and improved quality through elimination of rechucking.
New SLANT TURN 600M machines price between $400,000 and $600,000 depending on bed length. The 600M competes with the Okuma LB6000 EX MY, Hwacheon Mega 100M, and Hankook SKT21M.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 14.76-inch bore plus live tooling enables complete processing of large pipe with cross-drilled ports and tapped holes
- C-axis and BMT live tooling eliminate crane moves to a machining center for secondary operations on heavy parts
- 45 kW spindle delivers enormous torque for heavy roughing on the largest-diameter workpieces
- Three bed lengths from 80 to 160 inches accommodate a wide range of long, large-bore applications
- Done-in-one processing improves quality by eliminating rechucking error on heavy, precision components
- MAZATROL SmoothG integrates turning and milling in one conversational programming interface
Limitations
- 800 RPM max spindle speed restricts the machine to large-diameter work exclusively
- 19,000 kg machine weight is substantial, requiring heavy-duty foundation and crane infrastructure
- $50K-$60K premium over the base 600 for live tooling and C-axis adds to already-high cost
- Live tool power at 5.5 kW limits milling to drilling, tapping, and light contouring operations

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New pricing ranges from $400,000 for the medium-bed to $600,000 for the extra-long bed with full options. The M variant adds $50,000-$60,000 over the base SLANT TURN 600 for live tooling, C-axis motor, and milling programming.
02
Cross-drilling, tapping, bolt-hole patterns, keyway cutting, and contour milling using BMT live tooling with C-axis. The 5.5 kW motor handles secondary operations but is not a substitute for a machining center on heavy milling jobs.
03
In the SLANT TURN family, yes. The 600M at 14.76-inch bore is the largest. For even larger workpiece diameters, consider the Mazak MEGA TURN or INTEGREX e-V series, which are vertical turning centers that approach workpieces from above.
04
For workpieces that fit within its 35.83-inch turning diameter and can be loaded horizontally, yes. The horizontal configuration is often preferred for long parts. For short, heavy, large-diameter parts, a vertical turning center like the MEGA TURN may be more practical due to gravity-assisted loading.
