Overview
The Mazak QT-PRIMOS 100 is a small two-axis chucking lathe: a 6 in chuck, a 5,000 rpm spindle and an 8-tool drum turret working inside an envelope of Ø7 in (178 mm) diameter by 8 in (203 mm) length. Those numbers describe short, disc-type and flange-type parts made in quantity, and the rest of the machine is arranged around that job.
Travels are 4 in (102 mm) in X and 10 in (254 mm) in Z. Swing is Ø17 in (432 mm), far more than the turning diameter, so it tells you what clears the covers and not what can be cut. Bar capacity is Ø1 in (25 mm). That is small for a 6 in chuck machine and means bar work is confined to pins, bushings and similar small parts; the main business of this lathe is chucked blanks.
The turret holds 8 tools. Mazak describes the series turret as a servo motor driven drum with non-lift indexing, which shortens the time between cuts on parts where the cycle is mostly tool changes. Eight stations is enough for a typical rough, finish, groove, thread, drill and bore sequence, but a part family with many special tools will force changeovers. The series uses a built-in motor spindle.
Floor space and loading are the other half of the design. Daily maintenance points are reached from the front and rear, with the lubrication oil tank at the front, so machines can stand side by side. Mazak offers two loaders for the series: a Quick Loader that fits in the same floor space as the standard machine, and a Gantry Loader whose pallets can be stacked with workpieces to a height of 13.78 in. A turn-over unit for the gantry is an option. The series control is MAZATROL SmoothEz with a touch screen.
The table for this model gives no spindle power, rapid traverse or machine weight, so get those from Mazak before planning cuts or the installation.
