Overview
The Mazak HCR-5000 is a 5-axis machining center with a horizontal spindle: the part rides on a tilting rotary table and the tool comes at it from the side, so chips fall away from the cut. The table is 19.69 in (500 mm) × 19.69 in (500 mm), carries 1,102 lb (500 kg) and takes a workpiece of Ø27.56 in (700 mm) × 25.34 in (644 mm). X, Y and Z each travel 29 in (737 mm), and Mazak lists the model with a 2 pallet changer.
The A axis tilts from -90° to +135°. Mazak's series page adds a full turn of C-axis rotation in either direction, roller gear cam drives on both rotary axes with 0.0001° positioning increments, and speeds of 30 rpm on A and 50 rpm on C. A tilt range that passes 90° on one side lets the tool reach undercut features without a second setup.
The basic spindle is CAT No.40 at 12,000 rpm, grease lubricated, rated 18.5 kW (25 HP) at 40% ED and 15 kW (20 HP) continuous, with 60 ft-lb (81 Nm) at 40% ED and 44 ft-lb (60 Nm) continuous. That is light for steel but adequate for aluminium structural parts. Mazak lists three optional spindles in the series: 18,000 rpm with 35 kW (47 HP) at 40% ED in CAT No.40, BIG-PLUS No.40 or HSK-A63; 25,000 rpm with 23 kW (30.6 HP) at 40% ED in HSK-A63; and 30,000 rpm with 80 kW (106.6 HP) continuous in HSK-A63. Linear rapids are 2,362 ipm (60 m/min).
Chip handling is a stated design point of the series: a centre trough with a chip conveyor, and a coolant tank of 800 L (211 gal) as a standard accessory to flush chips off the workpiece and pallet. The 40-tool magazine takes tools Ø4 in (102 mm), or Ø7 in (178 mm) beside empty pockets, 16 in (406 mm) long and 26 lb (12 kg).
The machine weighs 31,327 lb (14,210 kg), needs 124 in (3,150 mm) × 231 in (5,867 mm) of floor with the MAZATROL SmoothX control and is 109 in (2,769 mm) high.
