The Makino UX6i pairs the 650 x 450 x 420 mm (25.6 x 17.7 x 16.5 in) travels of the UX6 with Makino's UXi accuracy package. On a casting this size, heat is what moves the geometry over a long cut. The UX6i deals with it in two places: an internal radiator system cools the casting, and a high-accuracy chiller holds the temperature within ±0.1 °C. Makino pairs this with a worktable made to a higher flatness accuracy, which counts on a 4-Sided table where a large plate may be clamped across the full 910 x 710 mm, and an automatic seal plate shower that keeps the seal plate lubricated and clean.
Wire handling uses the Hyper Drive Extreme guide system, in which an AC servo motor sets the wire tension over a broader range. Dynamic corner control lives in the cutting technology database and improves straightness, size and shape accuracy at corners. Tall sections near the 400 mm (15.8 in) height limit are where wire lag at corners shows most, so this is where the feature earns its place.
Threading is built for awkward parts. The jet-less system threads hollow or interrupted workpieces and extremely small start holes, the wire is annealed to straighten it before threading, and after a break the operator can rethread in the gap on suitable jobs. On a heavy plate with a long cut ahead, that saves the trip back to the start hole. Wire sizes are 0.100 mm to 0.300 mm (0.004 in to 0.012 in).
