How much does the Kinetic K4000 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Kinetic K4000 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Kinetic describes the K4000 as a heavy-duty combination plasma cutting, oxy-fuel cutting and milling machine. In practice it is the middle of three moving-gantry models: a CAT 40 spindle with 24 tool stations riding the same bridge as the torches, rated for high-production drilling up to a 2 in (51 mm) hole and tapping up to a 1 in (25 mm) hole.
Those two figures decide whether this is the right size. Drilling to 2 in (51 mm) covers a wider span of structural bolt holes than the K3000, which stops at 1-1/4 in (32 mm). Boring reaches 6 in (152 mm). Anything rounder and larger is milled by interpolation, listed as any diameter, and the same spindle does counter boring, chamfering, thread milling and scribed part marking.
Cutting ratings do not change with the model. Plasma is listed up to 4 in (102 mm) thick and oxy fuel up to 8 in (203 mm) thick, with plasma, oxy fuel and triple oxy beveling. So the choice between this machine and its neighbours is a machining choice, not a cutting one.
The table can be built up to 18 ft (5.49 m) wide and up to 200 ft (60.96 m) long. On a bed that size the gantry spends real time travelling between plates, at a traverse speed of 800 in/min (20.3 m/min). Tool changes are automated and take under 3 seconds, so a nest that alternates between drill sizes loses little to the changer. Kinetic lists a one-piece welded gantry on floor mounted rails, programmable ball screw drives for the vertical axes and a closed chip extraction system that automates chip collection.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- High-production drilling up to a 2 in (51 mm) hole, against 1-1/4 in (32 mm) on the K3000
- Tapping up to a 1 in (25 mm) hole and boring to 6 in (152 mm) on the cutting table
- CAT 40 spindle fed from 24 tool stations, with tool changes in under 3 seconds
- Same cutting ratings as the largest model: plasma up to 4 in (102 mm) and oxy fuel up to 8 in (203 mm) thick
- One-piece welded gantry and programmable ball screw drives for the vertical axes
Limitations
- A 40-taper spindle: the K5000 moves to CAT 50 and drills to 4 in (102 mm)
- No spindle power, torque or speed is published, so heavy milling capacity has to be confirmed with Kinetic
- Traverse speed of 800 in/min (20.3 m/min) on tables that can run to 200 ft (60.96 m)
- Part unloading and pass-through handling are options, not part of the base machine

Frequently Asked Questions
01
High-production drilling is listed up to a 2 in (51 mm) hole. Tapping goes up to a 1 in (25 mm) hole and boring to 6 in (152 mm). Beyond that Kinetic lists interpolated milling to any diameter, which uses a smaller cutter on a circular path instead of a full-size drill.
02
CAT 40. Kinetic's benefits list reads CAT 40 spindle with 24 tool stations, and tool changes are automated in under 3 seconds. The K5000 is the model with a CAT 50 spindle. Kinetic does not publish spindle power or speed for either on its product pages.
03
No. Both are listed for plasma up to 4 in (102 mm) thick and oxy fuel up to 8 in (203 mm) thick. What the K4000 adds is machining capacity: drilling to 2 in (51 mm) where the K3000 is listed to 1-1/4 in (32 mm).
04
Kinetic lists a closed chip extraction system that automates chip collection, a coolant recycling system that minimizes refills and through-spindle coolant to extend tooling life.
05
The machine has multiple lifter stations for up to 2 independently driven plasma torches. Oxy fuel cutting, plasma bevel cutting, oxy fuel bevel cutting and multi torch cutting are all in the list of available cutting heads, so the torch layout is decided when the machine is specified.
