Kinetic K3000 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Kinetic K3000 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Kinetic or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Kinetic K3000 is a gantry plate processor that puts a plasma and oxy fuel cutting system and a BT 40 machining spindle on the same bridge. Kinetic rates it for plasma cutting up to 4 in (102 mm) thick and oxy fuel up to 8 in (203 mm) thick, on a table up to 18 ft (5.49 m) wide and up to 200 ft (60.96 m) long. It is the entry model of the three moving-gantry combination machines, and the spindle is what sets that position.

On the machining side the K3000 is listed for high-production drilling up to a 1-1/4 in (32 mm) hole, tapping up to a 5/8 in (16 mm) hole and boring to 4 in (102 mm). Larger round features are made by interpolated milling, which Kinetic gives as any diameter. The spindle draws from 24 tool stations, with automated tool changes in under 3 seconds and automatic tool height measurement. Through-spindle coolant is part of the machine, along with a coolant recycling system.

Why does the hole size matter so much here? Because it is the main thing that separates the three sizes. The K4000 drills to 2 in (51 mm) and taps to 1 in (25 mm) with a CAT 40 spindle, and the K5000 goes further again. A shop whose bolt holes stay at or under the K3000 limits gets the same cutting ratings and the same table sizes as the larger machines.

The cutting side carries multiple lifter stations for up to 2 independently driven plasma torches, with plasma, oxy fuel and triple oxy beveling and pipe cutting in the capability list. Traverse speed is 800 in/min (20.3 m/min) on a dual driven rack and pinion system with linear rails and helical racking. The operator works from a 19 in (483 mm) LCD touchscreen. A water table for wider spans, the automated part removal system and pass-through table technology are options, so confirm what a quoted machine includes.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Plasma cutting up to 4 in (102 mm) thick and oxy fuel up to 8 in (203 mm) thick on the same gantry as the machining spindle
  • BT 40 spindle with 24 tool stations and automated tool changes in under 3 seconds
  • Drilling up to a 1-1/4 in (32 mm) hole, tapping up to a 5/8 in (16 mm) hole and boring to 4 in (102 mm) without moving the plate to another machine
  • Tables up to 18 ft (5.49 m) wide and up to 200 ft (60.96 m) long
  • Through-spindle coolant and a coolant recycling system are in Kinetic's feature list
  • Multiple lifter stations for up to 2 independently driven plasma torches

Limitations

  • Drilling stops at a 1-1/4 in (32 mm) hole and tapping at a 5/8 in (16 mm) hole; the K4000 drills to 2 in (51 mm) and taps to 1 in (25 mm)
  • Kinetic publishes no spindle power, spindle speed or positioning accuracy figure for the K3000
  • The automated part removal system, pass-through table technology and the water table for wider spans are options
  • Traverse speed is 800 in/min (20.3 m/min), which on a table up to 200 ft (60.96 m) long makes long repositioning moves slow

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What can the Kinetic K3000 drill and tap?

Kinetic lists high-production drilling up to a 1-1/4 in (32 mm) hole, tapping up to a 5/8 in (16 mm) hole and boring to 4 in (102 mm). Interpolated milling is given as any diameter, and the machining list also names counter boring, chamfering, hole interpolation, thread milling and part marking.

02 How thick can the K3000 cut?

Plasma up to 4 in (102 mm) thick and oxy fuel up to 8 in (203 mm) thick. The capability list also includes plasma beveling, oxy fuel beveling, triple oxy beveling and pipe cutting. Which of these a machine can do depends on the cutting heads it is ordered with.

03 What spindle and tool changer does the K3000 have?

A BT 40 spindle with 24 tool stations. Kinetic states automated tool changes in under 3 seconds, auto tool height measurement and automated tooling alerts. Through-spindle coolant is listed under durability as a way to extend tooling life. No spindle power or speed is published.

04 How does the K3000 differ from the K4000?

The spindle and the hole sizes. The K3000 has a BT 40 spindle and is listed for drilling to 1-1/4 in (32 mm), tapping to 5/8 in (16 mm) and boring to 4 in (102 mm). The K4000 has a CAT 40 spindle and is listed for drilling to 2 in (51 mm), tapping to 1 in (25 mm) and boring to 6 in (152 mm). Cutting thickness and table sizes are the same on both.

05 What table sizes are available for the K3000?

Kinetic gives the table as up to 18 ft (5.49 m) wide and up to 200 ft (60.96 m) long. It is a downdraft table with a self-cleaning design, travelling dross bins and modular slats. A water table is offered as an option for wider spans.
