Overview

Every heavy element of the ST series is present on the Johnford ST-130DX: the D spindle with its 240 mm (9.4 in) bearing, the 1,200 mm (47.2 in) swing frame, a Ø200 mm (7.9 in) tailstock quill, and 3,050 mm (120.1 in) of Z travel between them.

It weighs 20,700 kg (45,540 lb). That is the top figure among the nine three-metre ST lathes, although the spread is narrow: the lightest, the ST-130B, is listed at 20,100 kg (44,220 lb).

Solid work is what distinguishes this model from the B and C versions on the same frame. A forged shaft of large diameter needs low speed and sustained torque, and the D spindle supplies 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp), or 37 / 45 kW (49.6 / 60.3 hp), through four automatic speeds with a ceiling of 1,000 rpm. The chuck is 510 mm (20.1 in), optionally 610 mm (24 in).

Bar capacity is 165 mm (6.5 in) through a 185 mm (7.3 in) bore. X travel is 520 mm (20.5 in) and swing over the cross slide 1,000 mm (39.4 in). The tailstock travels 2,750 mm (108.3 in). Outside dimensions are 8,612 x 2,645 x 3,175 mm (339.1 x 104.1 x 125 in).
