How much does the Johnford SLM-65-2S+B+C+Y cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Johnford SLM-65-2S+B+C+Y that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Johnford SLM-65-2S+B+C+Y is a twin-spindle multitasking machine: two identical 10 in turning spindles facing each other and, above them, a B-axis milling/turning spindle with a CAPTO C6 interface, 15,000 rpm and a 40-tool magazine.
The build is aimed at speed. The axes run on roller linear guideways with linear scales on X, Y and Z, rapid traverse is 40 m/min on all three, and both turning spindles have built-in motors: 22 / 27.5 kW (29.5 / 36.9 hp), 546 / 691 Nm (403 / 510 lb-ft) and 4,000 rpm through an A2-8 nose. It is a fast machine for medium-sized parts made complete, not a heavy roughing lathe.
The milling spindle is rated 18.5 kW (S1) / 23.1 kW (peak) and 61.6 / 78 Nm (45 / 58 lb-ft). Those are figures for end mills, drills and small face mills at high speed, and the tool limits agree: Ø75 mm (3 in) with adjacent tools, Ø100 mm (3.9 in) without, 320 mm (12.6 in) long and 10 kg (22 lb). The B axis swings from -30° to +190°, so the same tool reaches both spindles.
Maximum turning diameter is Ø500 mm (19.7 in) and bar capacity Ø80 mm (3.1 in) on either side. Y travel is ±130 mm (±5.1 in), Z travel 1,500 mm (59.1 in), and the sub-spindle moves 1,500 mm (59.1 in) on W. The machine weighs 15,000 kg (33,069 lb).

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Yes. The accessory list describes a twin-spindle system with the same parameters of spindles, both with built-in motors and 3-jaw hydraulic 10” chucks. The table gives each an A2-8 nose, a Ø92 mm (3.6 in) bore, 4,000 rpm and 22 / 27.5 kW (29.5 / 36.9 hp).
02
CAPTO C6 as standard, with a 40-tool ATC. An HSK-A63 spindle taper instead of CAPTO C6 is optional, and the page states that an ATC with over 40 tools is available.
03
As an option. The optional accessory list offers a programmable hydraulic tailstock instead of the sub-spindle, along with a hydraulic self-centering steady rest and a hydraulic self-centering follower rest travelling by CNC motor.
04
The SLM-120A+B+C+Y is the large single-spindle machine: Ø1,150 mm (45.3 in) turning diameter, 3,000 mm (118.1 in) of Z travel, a tailstock and 30,000 kg (66,138 lb). The SLM-65-2S+B+C+Y turns Ø500 mm (19.7 in), has 1,500 mm (59.1 in) of Z, two spindles and half the weight at 15,000 kg (33,069 lb). Both use the same CAPTO C6 milling spindle.
