Overview
The Nakamura-Tome NTX-C is a compact multi-tasking turning center for complex precision parts in medical, dental, electronics, and watch industries. Despite its compact footprint, it delivers B-axis milling with dual turning spindles.
The main spindle handles bar to 38 mm at 8,000 RPM with 11 kW. The counter-spindle matches at 8,000 RPM with C-axis. The B-axis tool spindle swivels +/- 120 degrees at 10,000 RPM with 5.5 kW. The lower turret has 16 tool positions. Simultaneous cutting with turret and B-axis reduces cycle times.
Built on cast iron with precision linear guides. Fanuc 31i-B5 control with NT Smart Machining thermal compensation. New NTX-C machines price $350,000-$500,000. B-axis in this compact class differentiates it from Citizen Miyano, Star, and Tsugami which typically offer only Y/C axes.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- B-axis milling in compact platform -- most competitors lack angular machining at this size
- 8,000 RPM spindles for optimal speed on small-diameter parts
- Dual spindles with C-axis for complete front-and-back machining
- Compact footprint allows multiple machines in one large machine's space
- Simultaneous cutting with turret and B-axis reduces cycle times
- Nakamura-Tome specialization delivers refined small-part solutions
Limitations
- 38 mm bar capacity strictly limits to small parts
- 5.5 kW milling spindle limited on harder materials
- $350,000-$500,000 premium requires complex parts to justify
- Multi-channel programming needs advanced CAM
- Smaller dealer network than major OEMs

Frequently Asked Questions
01
$350,000-$500,000 new. Standard ~$375,000-$425,000. Used (2019-2024) $200,000-$325,000.
02
NTX-C is compact (38 mm bar, 8,000 RPM). NTJ-100 handles larger parts (51 mm bar, 5,000 RPM). Both have B-axis.
03
For some applications. Has B-axis Swiss machines lack. But Swiss excels at long slender parts with guide bushing.
04
NT Smart Machining active thermal compensation with sensors for automatic position adjustment.
05
Bar feeders, parts conveyors, robotic loading. Compact suits multi-machine cells.
