Overview
The Haas UMC-1000SS-P combines the super-speed performance of the UMC-1000SS with an integrated pallet changer, creating the highest-throughput 5-axis production cell in the Haas 1000-class envelope. With 1,016 x 635 x 635 mm (40 x 25 x 25 in) of travel, a 12,000 RPM spindle, 1,200 ipm rapids, and automatic pallet exchange, it delivers both cutting performance and spindle utilization in a single platform.
The 22.4 kW (30 hp) inline direct-drive spindle runs to 12,000 RPM with 122 Nm (90 ft-lbf) of torque at 2,000 RPM. Liquid cooling maintains thermal stability during extended production runs. The CT40/BT40/HSK-A63 taper options provide tooling flexibility.
The trunnion table carries a 635 mm (25 in) platter. With the pallet system active, capacity is approximately 90.7 kg (200 lb) per pallet. The B-axis tilts from +120 to -35 degrees at 170 degrees per second, and the C-axis provides full 360-degree rotation at 179 degrees per second — the same SS-class rotary speeds that make repositioning between cuts dramatically faster than the standard model.
Rapids run at 30.5 m/min (1,200 ipm) on all linear axes. The 30+1 SMTC delivers 1.8-second tool-to-tool and 2.4-second chip-to-chip times. These SS-class speeds combined with automatic pallet exchange create a machine optimized for high-volume 5-axis production.
The NGC control coordinates pallet exchange, tool management, and production scheduling. While one pallet is being machined at SS speeds, the operator loads the next workpiece on the second pallet. No spindle downtime between parts.
At approximately $280,000-$360,000, the UMC-1000SS-P is a significant investment. It makes sense for shops running repeat 5-axis parts where both cycle time and spindle utilization directly impact profitability. Specs sourced from Haas Automation published data.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Combines SS-class speed (12,000 RPM, 1,200 ipm rapids, 170°/sec rotary) with automatic pallet exchange for maximum throughput
- 1.8-second tool-to-tool and zero-downtime pallet exchange minimize all non-cutting time
- 40x25x25-inch travel with 34-inch part swing handles larger 5-axis work than the UMC-750SS-P
- 170°/sec B-axis and 179°/sec C-axis speeds slash repositioning time between 5-axis cuts
- NGC control coordinates pallet scheduling, tool management, and production runs for unattended operation
- Haas Factory Outlet network provides consistent parts and service support
Limitations
- 200 lb pallet pool capacity severely limits workpiece and fixture weight for unattended runs
- Price premium of $40K-$60K over the UMC-1000SS requires production volume to justify
- 30+1 standard tool capacity may require the 50+1 or 70+1 option for diverse multi-pallet production
- 12,000 RPM may still be limiting for shops running very small end mills in aluminum at maximum SFM

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Base price starts around $280,000. With HSK-A63 taper, through-spindle coolant, probing, and expanded toolchanger, expect $320,000-$360,000. The P adds approximately $40,000-$60,000 over the standard UMC-1000SS.
02
The SS-P has a 12,000 RPM spindle (vs 8,100), 1,200 ipm rapids (vs 900), 1.8-second tool-to-tool (vs 2.8), and 170°/sec rotary speeds (vs 50°/sec). Both have the same travel, pallet system, and 200 lb pallet capacity. The SS-P costs $60K-$80K more but cuts cycle times significantly.
03
It depends on your parts. Many aerospace aluminum and medical titanium 5-axis parts plus their fixtures weigh under 200 lb. For heavier assemblies, consider the standard UMC-1000SS without the pallet system, which offers the full 1,000 lb platter capacity.
04
With two pallets, it can run one additional part unattended after the operator loads the second pallet and starts the program. For true lights-out production across a full shift, you need tool life monitoring, chip management, and coolant systems that support extended unattended operation.
